If your AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) High Definition Display or My AcuRite® account is reporting inaccurate wind speed readings, please review the suggestions below. These steps can also be used if your AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) Weather Station is reporting no wind speed readings at all. We have also included suggestions for users of the Wind Extension for AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) Weather Station model #06072M that are experiencing inaccurate or no wind speed readings.
If you are experiencing no wind speed readings:
-
We have found that the wind cups can shift out of place during shipping. Please pull the wind cups down, away from the wind vane until they click into place. The wind speed should register within 1-2 minutes. You may need to perform the hard reset included at the bottom of this article if the wind speed does not update right away.
-
Confirm the connectors are secure. Please perform the troubleshooting steps below.
- Please remove the batteries/power from the sensor and remove the wind assembly as shown above.
- Unplug the connectors, as shown above, for 1-2 minutes.
- Reconnect the connectors.
- Reinstall the wind assembly.
- Reinsert the batteries into the sensor or battery pack, or plug in the power adapter, or solar power pack. Confirm the red light near the AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) sensor's battery compartment flashes once every 10 seconds. If the light flashes rapidly for 5 seconds once powered on, the wind assembly connectors may not have a secure fit.
- The wind speed should update in 1-2 minutes, however, you may also need to perform the hard reset below if you are using an AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) display.
If the wind speed readings are inaccurate:
-
What is wind reading being compared to? Pro weather stations are typically mounted at 33 feet or higher. Make sure to compare data using a sensor positioned at the same mounting height.
-
Check the location of the sensor. Ensure it’s mounted a minimum of 5 feet in the air with no obstructions around it (within several feet). The National Weather Service recommends mounting the sensor 33 feet above the ground with no obstructions within 100 feet for the most accurate wind speeds. We understand not all of our customers can mount this high. You will receive an accurate reading for the location your sensor is mounted including all surroundings. If you are comparing to a local news station, they are following the National Weather Service guidelines.
-
Ensure wind cups and vane are spinning freely. If they hesitate or stop, try lubricating with graphite powder or spray lubricant.
To lubricate:- Remove the wind vane and cups if possible. If not, you may apply lubricant to the spindle from underneath the vane and cups.
- Apply the desired lubricant to the points on the wind assembly shown in the image below:
- Reinstall wind cups and vane, if removed.
NOTE: The spindle and wind vane can only be reinstalled in one direction. Both the spindle and the hole in the vane are circular-shaped with one flat side. Make sure to line up the flat sides when reinstalling the wind vane.
If either the wind cups or vane no longer spin freely even after lubrication, we recommend replacing the wind assembly found in the link below.
AcuRite Atlas Wind Assembly Replacement Part

Confirm the connectors are secure. Perform the troubleshooting steps below.
- Please remove the batteries/power from the sensor and remove the wind assembly as shown above.
- Unplug the connectors, as shown above, for 1-2 minutes.
- Reconnect the connectors.
- Reinstall the wind assembly.
- Reinsert the batteries into the sensor or battery pack, or plug in the power adapter or solar power pack. Confirm the red light near the AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) sensor's battery compartment flashes once every 10 seconds. If the light flashes rapidly for 5 seconds once powered on, the wind assembly connectors may not have a secure fit.
- The wind speed should update in 1-2 minutes, however, you may also need to perform the hard reset below if you are using an AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) display unit.
- An extremely high, erroneous wind speed reading of 100 mph or more is an error code (often paired with a -40 or 158 degree temperature reading) that can indicate that the batteries need to be replaced. Ensure that you are using fresh, recommended batteries:
- Verify you are using fresh batteries in the sensor. Lithium batteries are recommended for installation locations where temperatures can go below -4°F/-20°C.
- Verify you are using batteries with a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts.
NOTE: Some rechargeable batteries carry low or inconsistent voltages that may not properly power the device. - Mixing different battery types (brands, old/new, etc.) is not recommended.
Hard Reset:
Please follow the steps carefully as the order is crucial to the success of the reset. This will clear all historical data.
If you believe your Wind Direction readings to be inaccurate, please review the link below before attempting the above troubleshooting.
If you are using the Wind Extension for AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) Weather Station model #06072M:
Please disconnect this accessory and reconnect the AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) Wind Assembly directly to the AcuRite Atlas® (7-in-1) Sensor to make sure an accurate wind speed reading is recorded without the Wind Extension. Reconnect the Wind Extension, making sure all connections are secure and the 30ft cable is NOT wrapped around a pole or bunched together. Keep the cable as straight as the mount setup will allow.
