The Digital Refrigerator and Freezer Thermometer Model #00986 displays current temperature readings as well as the high and low records and features programmable alarms. These readings reflect the highest and lowest temperatures recorded since the batteries were inserted or since the CLR button was last pressed. If your unit is reading inaccurate temperatures or one or both of the sensors are not connecting to the display, please review the hard reset steps below. Also included are steps for setting the programmable alarms as well as descriptions of the different alarm sounds.
You will want to ensure the following first:
- Verify you are using fresh batteries in the sensor. Lithium batteries are recommended for installation locations where temperatures can go below -4°F/-20°C.
- Verify you are using batteries with a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts.
NOTE: Some rechargeable batteries carry low or inconsistent voltages that may not properly power the device. - Mixing different battery types (brands, old/new, etc.) is not recommended.
Hard Reset:
If the display unit is showing dashes or the temperature readings are inaccurate, please review the suggestions below.
Please follow the steps carefully as the order is crucial to the success of the reset.
- Bring all 3 units together, side-by-side.
- Remove all batteries from all 3 units.
- Reinstall batteries in the thermometer display unit first then press and hold the reset button for 20 seconds.
- Reinstall batteries into sensor #1.
- Reinstall batteries into sensor #2.
- The display unit should read temperatures from both sensors almost instantly. Please allow at least 20 minutes for the units to adjust to their surroundings before comparing temperature readings.
Set Alarms with Customized Temperature Thresholds:
When setting the custom minimum and maximum alerts for the fridge and freezer thermometer model 00986, the default feature for sensor #1 (refrigerator) is a minimum of 33ºF/maximum 40ºF. Sensor #2 (freezer) will default to a minimum -22ºF/maximum 0ºF.
To set the alarms to a customized min/max temperature:
- Press and hold the bell #1 button until the display unit beeps. Where the current temperature was, the maximum alarm temperature will blink.
- Use the + or – buttons to change it.
- Press and release the bell #1 button. The minimum alarm temperature will blink.
- Use the + or – buttons to change it.
- Do this same process using the bell #2 button to customize the maximum, then minimum alarm temperatures.
NOTE: When the unit is in a normal operating mode (not in alarm set mode), the min/max readings to the right of each current temperature reading are the min/max temperature recordings.
Visual and Audible Alarms:
An alert is triggered when a temperature is out of range for longer than 15 minutes. This prevents false alarms due to the fridge/freezer door being held open while new items are being loaded/unloaded.
The display will begin to single beep repetitively for one minute once the high or low threshold on Sensor #1 has been met to trigger the alert. The display unit will continue to single beep 3 times every minute until the alarm #1 button is pressed.
The display will begin to double beep repetitively for one minute once the high or low threshold on Sensor #2 has been met to trigger the alert. The display unit will continue to double beep 3 times every minute until the alarm #2 button is pressed.
The alarm icon on the display will continue to flash when the alert is active and will turn off once the alarm button is pressed to disable the alert. The button will need to be pressed again to turn the alarm on.
Both alarms sound at the same decibel.
