AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) Inaccurate Wind Readings

Follow

If your AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) High Definition Display or My AcuRite™ account is reporting inaccurate wind speed readings, please review the suggestions below. These steps can also be used if your AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) Weather Station is reporting no wind speed readings at all. We have also included suggestions for users of the Wind Extension for AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) Weather Station model #06072M that are experiencing inaccurate or no wind speed readings.

If you are experiencing no wind speed readings:

  1. We have found that the wind cups can shift out of place during shipping. Please pull the wind cups down, away from the wind vane until they click into place. The wind speed should register within 1-2 minutes. You may need to perform the hard reset included at the bottom of this article if the wind speed does not update right away.
  2. Confirm the connectors are secure. Please perform the troubleshooting steps below..
    1. Please remove the batteries from the sensor and remove the wind assembly as shown above.
    2. Unplug the connectors, as shown above, for 1-2 minutes.
    3. Reconnect the connectors.
    4. Reinstall the wind assembly.
    5. Reinsert the batteries into the sensor, battery pack, or plug in the power adapter. Confirm the red light near the AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) sensor's battery compartment flashes once every 10 seconds. If the light flashes rapidly for 5 seconds once powered on, the wind assembly connectors may not have a secure fit.
    6. The wind speed should update in 1-2 minutes, however, you may also need to perform the hard reset below if you are using the AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) display model 06061M.

If the wind speed readings are inaccurate:

  1. What is wind reading being compared to? Pro weather stations are typically mounted at 33-feet or higher. Make sure to compare data using a sensor positioned at the same mounting height.
  2. Check the location of the sensor. Ensure it’s mounted a minimum of 5-feet in the air with no obstructions around it (within several feet). The National Weather Service recommends mounting the sensor 33 feet above the ground with no obstructions within 100 feet for the most accurate wind speeds. We understand not all of our customers can mount this high. You will receive an accurate reading for the location your sensor is mounted including all surroundings. If you are comparing to a local news station, they are following the National Weather Service guidelines.Wind_.jpg
  3. Ensure wind cups are spinning freely. If they hesitate or stop, try lubricating with graphite powder or spray lubricant.
  4. Confirm the connectors are secure. Perform the troubleshooting steps below.

Hard Reset:

Please follow the steps carefully as the order is crucial to the success of the reset. This will clear all historical data.

  1. Bring both the sensor and display unit indoors and position them side by side.
  2. Remove the batteries from the sensor and change the sensor to a new ABC channel.
  3. Go to the main menu by tapping the "MENU" button.  The "MENU" button is the three white horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner of the display.
  4. Tap the "Sensor" option from the menu.
  5. Tap "Remove A Sensor". If the display shows you a picture of the AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) sensor, Tap "Done" (If the screen does not change/the remove a sensor button does not work, skip down to step 8).
  6. It will ask you to confirm removing the sensor, tap "Yes".
  7. It will ask you "Are you sure?", tap "Yes".
  8. The display will revert back to the previous screen. Tap the back arrow in the upper left-hand corner of the display to return to the main menu.
  9. Tap "Factory Reset".
  10. You will receive a prompt asking if you want to reset to factory settings. Tap "Yes".
  11. It will ask you "Are you sure?", Tap "Yes". The display will reset itself and go to the main AcuRite logo screen.
  12. You will now be able to set up the display by following the on-screen prompts.
  13. Once that is completed, put the batteries back into the sensor directly. (Follow these troubleshooting steps without the use of a battery pack and/or power adapter.)
  14. Go to the main menu by tapping the "MENU" button.  The "MENU" button is the three white horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner of the display.
  15. Tap the "Sensor" option from the menu.
  16. Tap "Add A Sensor".
  17. The display will look for your sensor and show a picture of it when it is found asking if you would like to add it. Ensure that the designation in the description matches the channel that you set your sensor on.  Tap "Add This Sensor".
  18. The display will revert to the previous screen.  Tap the back arrow in the upper left-hand corner of the display twice to return to the main screen.
  19. Let both sensor and display sit side by side to establish a connection. (Leaving the units side-by-side for 30 minutes will allow you to verify accuracy by comparing the indoor and outdoor readings shown on the display. You can twirl the wind cups for 30 seconds to see if a speed registers on the display.)

If you are using the Wind Extension for AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1)™ Weather Station model #06072M:

Please disconnect this accessory and reconnect the AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) Wind Assembly directly to the AcuRite Atlas™ (7-in-1) Sensor to make sure an accurate wind speed reading is recorded without the Wind Extension. Reconnect the Wind Extension, making sure all connections are secure and the 30ft cable is NOT wrapped around a pole or bunched together. Keep the cable as straight as the mount setup will allow.
