Worst customer support in the world!

I am in Central America for the next 3 months, and have no way of calling customer support.  I live in Canada for the other six months and use my smarthub to monitor my house temperatures during the winter that I am not there. I really believe we are being duped. US law mandates that discontinued products be supported for 10 years after a product or service is discontinued. That being said, this upgrade, for me ends up costing me additional shipping, customs duties, and taxes and when converted to CDN $ it ends up costing me over $80.00. I addition, I can't even access the upgrade link, here in |Central America. And if I could order the upgrade there is no one home to receive shipment. My smarhub functions exactly as expected and does everything I need it do, so an upgrade for me is totally unnecessary and only serves to make it easier for acurite to switch, with the added bonus of selling thousands of units of new hardware. This is total ****** surprised no one has started a class action law suit. I need to be able to email customer support!

Mossey, can you point me to the US law or regulation that requires products be supported for 10 years? Short of being given a free replacement product or continued support of what I already paid for, I'll likely reach out to a few law firms to see what options may exist. I am in the US so I am probably in a better situation to pursue such action.

I am in a similar situation here in Canada. I paid $79 for my acurite hub on Amazon. It works just fine. With the discount on the acurite access and the shipping charges from acurite alone, it will cost me $95 canadian dollars to replace a product that is working fine. I am interested in getting on board with a class action lawsuit.

Let's try to migrate discussion to Reddit (linked above) for things that will inevitably be censored by Acurite here. They will not have the ability to remove or moderate discussion on Reddit. Their customer support in this thread has clearly been told just to keep pumping up the "Deal" of a $40 ransom upgrade and hope the noise fades.

On reddit we can continue discussing legal recourse, alternative products from other companies, and strategies in filing complaints with state attorney generals, BBB, Amazon, etc.

Quickly bookmark this link now since I expect it to be taken down soon.

If someone get's a class action suite going, I'm in.  My SmartHub is still working fine as well...needless filling of landfills with working units so someone at Acurite doesn't have to write compatible code.  Wish I'd known this was coming before I recommended my work invest in one...it hasn't been installed yet, maybe time to check on returns.
