Windspeed not registering - 06014M - It drops down to 0 when the wind is blowing and the cups are spinning. Then it starts reading again. It may be off for multiple reporting cycles before starting back again. I don't know how reliable it is reading windspeed. Other functions seem to work OK.

Hello Jack,

If your wind is reading 0 at times, we would recommend the steps below:  Perform a hard reset:

  1. Bring both the sensor and display unit indoors side by side.
  2. Remove batteries from the sensor.
  3. Remove batteries from the display unit and unplug the AC adapter (if applicable).
  4. Wait 1 minute to ensure any remaining battery power is discharged from both units.
  5. Make sure the A-B-C ID code switch on both units match.
*Sometimes changing to a different ID code can help.
  6. Reinstall batteries in outdoor sensor first.
  7. Reinstall batteries in display unit second.
  8. Let the units sit within a couple feet of each other for 20 minutes to ensure a wireless signal is received.
    * The display should receive the signal within several minutes.
  9. After a connection has been established you may place the sensor outdoors.
*If the signal connection fails after the units are separated try a new or different location for the display unit, the sensor or both.

It can also be due to interference, if the reset doesn't correct the problem, please try relocating the display and/or the sensor. Sometimes even a foot or two makes a difference. If you continue to have a problem please contact AcuRite Customer support at 877-221-1252. Thank you. Have a good day!

I should also mention that the wind gusts are intermittent, I see that a neighbor's wind gusts are reported every reporting cycle yet mine are only once or twice a day. And I live in a windy, gusty area. Also, if the other functions are reporting properly is a hard reset still needed?

Gusts are a matter of definition and can vary depending on the software or firmware you are using for reporting.

You would have to tell us what software you and your neighbor are using and on what system you are viewing them (e.g. wunderground, myAcurite, etc)

I am using wunderground - KCOCOLOR469 - Don't know what the neighbor to the north is using, I just see the results. I have the Acurite 06037M display with PC Connect. to send the results out.

Hello Jack,

You may be getting the intermittent readings due to your wind not always reporting. In the original post you said it was reporting 0. Is it now reporting?  Thank you. Have a good day!

Yes, it is reporting more often than not. Yesterday it was pretty breezy all day and there were a couple of reporting periods reading 0. Also, it only reported two wind gusts for the entire day. One of them was a 24 mph gust with a 0 mph wind for that reporting period.

Hi Jack,

What version of PC Connect are you using and are you streaming online to My Backyard Weather?  Currently it appears to be the way Weather Underground sorts the data that could be the problem.

I am using Acu-rite Connect v 1.2.1 and I am streaming online to My Backyard Weather. I see from the weather log that is saved to the PC that it is providing Peak Wind Speeds as well as average and current wind speeds. There I noticed something peculiar - The average wind speed was the same five straight reporting periods. And the Current Wind speed was the same for 6 straight reporting periods. At 6:48 AM the Average and Current wind speeds were 8.699197. At 7:00 AM the Average Wind Speed was 11.18468 and the Current wind speed was 8.699197. The same was true at 7:12, 7:24, 7:36 and 7:48 AM. Now the odds of those numbers remaining the same for an hour are pretty high. I would also note that the temperature at 6:48 through 7:48 was 64 degrees. At 8 AM it jumped to 69 degrees.

I also noticed a few other groupings of the same wind speeds over multiple reporting periods.

I would read this to be that either the 5-in-1 sensor has a glitch in it and is not updating successive reports properly or the display station has the glitch when transferring data to the PC.

I see from a review of the wind speed ranges that all those decimal places are overkill. If the wind speed is ~8.5 mph you just call it 8.699197 - there is no 8.596123 mph reading.

All those decimal points are due to the conversion from metric to English units.

We have a steady wind blowing right now, it is whistling in the eaves, and the display says 0 and has been saying 0 for more than an hour. I think the wind speed meter is not working properly, How do I get it replaced?

Actually, it has been over two hours at 0. All the other functions seem to be reporting, temp, humidity, pressure; just the wind speed is not reporting.
