Will the wind functions be damaged when we drive between campgrounds?  Max highway speed with our particular unit is 70mph.

The anemometer on a 5n1 is rated to 100 mph, but be aware the cups and wind vane get fragile as they age in the sun.  Road debris, low branches, and hail could be an issue.

The cups and vane are replaceable, though.  It takes some effort to pull them off the shafts, but they will come off.  A set of extra wind cups is $5.00, I think a replacement vane is $5.00, too.

Other things to be aware of:

Your wind direction won't correct unless you have unit aligned to true north.  You might want to mount the 5n1 so you can swivel it north once you park.

Your barometric reading won't be very accurate as you travel from point to point.  Obviously it will change with elevation, but the two-week "learning period" isn't well suited to frequent movement.

Driving 70MPH into a higher wind could exceed Max rating. 70 into a 30MPH wind is 100
Georges point on Direction is also spot on.  You need a RUGGED shelter for it when traveling , or simply bring it in.
