Using Both A Smart Hub And The Access?

I understand we can use both at the same time. What is the best way to use them?

Should they both report to wunderground or just the Access?
Does the 5 in 1 sensor send to both?
Put any sensors over the 7 limit on the smart hub?

Any other tips/suggestions?

Edward,

Unless you have Access and your hub and your modem/router powered from a UPS, I would suggest considering which of your sensors produce data that is most valuable to you, and put those on Access, taking advantage of its backup and restore function. Sensors with less critical data can then be handled by the old hub.

Hmm... Good questions, raises a lot for me too.

I can answer one for sure. The 5n1 and any other Accurite sensors you have will be seen by both the older SmarHUB and the new Access (hub).

Beyond that, well, I'm not sure but I have some thoughts.
- Any sensor should only 'associated' with one 'hub'. Both can see a sensor but only one should forward the data.
- Move your most 'critical' sensors, the 5n1, etc, to the Access to utilize it's battery backup up features.
- Not sure how WU will handle hours of data from the Access in a few minutes after a blackout but Accurite says they will.

The backup feature only works with My AcuRite, at least for now.
WU would have to do some work at their end to support it, in addition to a firmware mod required in Access.

My guess is that Access does not yet attempt to blast out backup data to WU. Pointless at this time.
If code to do that exists in Access at all, it would probably be dormant until activated at a time when WU was ready to handle that data. More likely, it remains to be loaded into Access, when/if...

So you suspect WU data will just gap during an outage and pick up when power/network is restored?

Yes, that is what happens. At this time there is no back fill of lost WU data.

George N. posted on another thread that WU is capable of accepting long patches of timestamped data now. So it seems we are waiting for AcuRite to implement WU patches within the Access firmware.
