Thermometer 00554 off by at least 6 degrees

Have recently purchased what I thought was going to be a nice unit but, the display unit is off  by 4 degrees, the sensor is by 6. I placed the unit, the sensor and two other thermometers on the same table in the same room. The two other thermometers read the same. While the acurite reads higher. The sensor is sitting next to it and reads 6 degrees difference higher only 1" away. I tested objects in the room at room temp with a infrared thermometer and they matched what the cheap digital thermometers display. Also the humidity is off between the indoor and outdoor units. Is it common for acurite to be this far off?

I can only speak for my unit but it's within a half a degree of two other thermometers that I have.

Thanks for the reply Gary. I thought maybe mine needed a few hours to sync up but I guess that would make no sense. Mine is currently still 5 degrees off. I used to love Acurite but I haven't had any of their products in a good couple years. I guess I'll take this back. Not sure if Acurite is as reliable as once was.

Hello Paul,

Please try the following troubleshooting steps listed below.  Thank you and have a great day!

Batteries:
•Verify you are using fresh alkaline batteries or lithium batteries (when temperature is below -4oF/-20oC) in sensor.
•Quality brand batteries are recommended, including Duracell, Rayovac, Energizer, or Kirkland.
•Verify batteries are fresh. The battery expiration date should be at least 6 years out. Batteries can lose 3% power or more every year in storage.
•Heavy duty, extra strength or generic / store brand batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the way these types of batteries disperse power. Each battery should not exceed 1.6 volts.
•Rechargeable batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the voltage instability of these types of batteries.
•Mixing different battery types (brands, old/new, etc.) is not recommended.

Hard reset:
- Bring both units side by side and remove all batteries, unplug display if it has an ac adapter
- Change the ABC Switch to a different setting and ensure that both are on the same setting. example - If on A, move both to C
- Place batteries into the outdoor sensor first
- Place batteries into display
- Allow units to sit side by side until they connect.
