Smarthub replacement

I just heard that the smarthub I purchased in January 2018, is no longer any good?  I heard I only have a couple days to get some kind of a code, pay 40 dollars to get some new thing that replaces my NEW smarthub?   Is this JOKE? or a scam?  Whats going on???!!?

I did buy the new Access device, never was able to make it work as advertised. Their phone support is non-existent with customers waiting hours only to be disconnected. Canned support email response on how to return a product.
If/when I need a new weather station, I will not be buying anything from AcuRite.

Yes, they are but not until February of 2019, if I understand correctly.

Thanks joegr.  Any idea How long is the code good to replace it?  My understanding is I have to buy a new unit by 3/31/18, which is two days from now, and Acurite wont respond to me. That must be their way of not having to do anything!  Frustrated beyond belief!

That's right on the code good until the 31st. Their phones where off  line for 2 days (wonder why) and was promised a call back weeks ago. Anyway spoke to them this morning.. Called and hit 2 for software issue. 5 minute wait.  I told them it sucks they cant make it backwards compatible. I was just getting ready to order the replacement but since have decided against it as the reviews on the new one aren't too good. I suspect a possible class action suite against them or bankruptcy. Cant be doing this to the people that provide valuable information to Weather UnderGround at our costs. I am sure they are going to loose a good chunk of their reporting stations.Since Acurite has already extended it a year I suggest we all wait and see what happens, seems they sniff trouble. If they are smart they will fix this. Pass it on....

Thanks for the reply Rick.  I did email for the code, but have not received any answer or a code.  I'm with you, I don't think the new product is any better than the old based on comments so far. Took me three units between Nov 17 and Jan 2018 to get a Smarthub that worked. Then they pull this after two months?  Access doesn't appear any better. IF I EVEN GET a code, not sure what I am going to do yet.  Sure hope someone starts a class-action suit.  This is not right to be treated like this. Good luck to you and all that are affected.

The Smart Hub was only marginally better, at least for me than the Access.  It had communications problems on USB, Anything else active on USB would cause odd readings to be reported, like 586mph wind gusts and temperatures of 135F.  But it did stay connected at least.  I was happy to see a replacement, until I got it.  Now it drops offline multiple times a day and needs a power cycle to get it going again, plus it stopped reporting to WU completely yesterday evening.  Last power cycle one of the battery contacts fell off.  I've sent them an email, don't want the aggravation of the phone, requesting a replacement.  It's only a little over a month old so I'm not holding out much hope with a replacement.

Thanks Awsum140.  I wish you luck on getting a reply. I could not even find an email that still worked!  I cant even get a code to use if I wanted to, which at this point, I am not sure I do.  I will miss having the access on the internet, but I don't know if it is worth the aggravation everyone seems to be having.  Maybe I'll just wait for the class action suit, and go with another brand station.  I'm beginning to think they will be out of business soon anyway, they way they are handling their customer service.  Thanks for the comment.

PS:  Cute dog.  Looks like a Great Dane.  Had one as a kid.  Lovable old girl! Still miss her!

He was a South African Boerboel, same weight range but not as tall and very heavily built.  Still miss him, too.

The Smarthub NEVER used USB.  Both it and the new Acess are Ethernet.  The Acces did away with Half-Duplex mode, which was an issue with many MODERN switches.

I knew nothing about this until I visited the community forum for something completely different. I purchased my system on Black Friday 2017, and never saw an e-mail from AcuRite about the SmartHub becoming obsolete. I specifically purchased the unit I did because of the SmartHub, and this really makes me angry that they would push sales on items that they know will soon be defunct!

You and MANY MANY MORE people are angry Amanda!  I never received an Email either.  I was too late to take advantage of the "UPGRADE", since I did not receive a code until AFTER 3/31.  I certainly hope some ambitious lawyer starts a Class Action over this. This is NO WAY to treat loyal customers!  Stay tuned.  We will see what happens.

You are right about that Jim.  I am looking at Ambient weather stations now.  They seem comparable to Acurite, and from what I have read so far, actually have a customer SUPPORT system.  Awsome140, thanks for confirming my thoughts!! LOL
