You don't have to replace your existing SmartHUB.  They can run in parallel for up to 17 devices.

Be aware the SmartHUB is at it end-of-life.  Don't expect it to be able to support new sensors and features.

I know, thanks. Acurite is marketing this as an upgrade to their existing user base. Therefore I was going to use the new smart hub as a replacement, not as an additional device (requiring its own power and ethernet connectivity). I really question what benefit I get from this other than paying $40 & shipping.

Hello Darren,

There are some benefits to the AcuRite Access that the smartHUB does not offer. The Access has the battery back up. Should you lose internet connection or power it will store up to 12 hours worth of information on the AcuRite Access. This way you do not lose data. It has the ability to do over the air firmware updates on it, as the smartHUB does not allow this. You do need to plug it in via an adapter and an Ethernet cable just like you do the smartHUB.  You can contact our AcuRite Loyalty Team at 262-729-4852 if you would like to return the AcuRite Access. We are open Monay-Friday 7:00am-5:00pm central time.
