I have a model 02064CAUDI/39030.  Shouldn't the outdoor sensor have rechargeable batteries rather than the alkaline ones supplied in the box?

No.  The solar panels are not connected to the batteries.  They only power the aspiration fan.

The batteries in the 5n1 generally last 18 to 24 months.

Great, may I suggest that this be explained in the manual as I thought the solar cells would be recharging the batteries.  Good to know and thank you again.
