Station should be able to show more than 99.99 inches of rain per year!

It's just bad software.  Same with portable lightning detector.  Goes to 199 strikes and then ends. How they could not have anyone make it go to at least 999 is beyond me.Chaney just does have any good software people working there and anyone who can actually write programs.   Just like now it only saves 1 months worth of information.

It's actually more of a hardware constraint in the LCD displays.

Each LCD segment added has to have dedicated space on the screen and adds extra wiring and complexity.  That makes an extra digit hard to fit in sometimes.

If you have a more general-purpose display like on a smart phone, then you have more flexibility.  The downside is the it requires more processing power.  Acurite's high resolution displays can fix the digit problem, but they also need to be plugged into an AC power source as batteries (if they had them) wouldn't be able to run the display for more than a few days.

Likely the reason the portable lightning detector only goes to 199 is that they felt they could "fudge" the "1" and drive it with only 1 or 2 LCD segments.   Rolling over to a "2" is more difficult, as it needs 5 LCD segments.  To do all the digits you would need 7 LCD segments.

Hello Fred,

What is the model number of the display you are referring to? The 06045 lightning detector should go to 999 strikes before needing to be reset. I would be happy to confirm to your specific display once the model number is provided. Thank you.
