Rain reading, but no rain occurred

MyAcuRite is showing that at midnight, I got .56" of rain. At about 5:10am, I got another .56" of rain (grand total of 1.12"). However, no rain actually fell. If it only had one occurrence, I could pass this off as some anomaly (such as we got a quick burst of high winds, and it made the rain cup tip). I checked the wind gauge, and no wind was reported overnight.

But, not only did it happen directly at midnight, but this occurrence happened twice overnight, and for the exact same amount each time (.56").

Anybody else see this in MyAcuRite?

I just checked WU, and the same thing is showing there. So, it's not something with AcuRite servers, but something with either my 5in1 (which this has never happened before), or something with my new Access.

By looking at the charts, on both occurrences of this, the .56" of rain fell within a 5 minute time frame. Two identical amounts...both within the same amount of time..and a pretty significant amount of "rain" within those time frames. 56/100 of an inch within 5 minutes...twice...

And now, I just got ANOTHER measurement of .56" of rain! That's 3 identical measurements of rain, when there has been no rain. First reading came at about midnight (12:00am), the second reading at about 5:10am, and the third reading at about 1:20pm.

1.68" total for the day.

You might consider changing the ABC switch to another letter (remember all must be the same letter). There might be interference from some other system nearby.

Thanks Steve. I'll give that a try tomorrow. Not holding onto hope with that idea, since the Access is in the same place that the SmartHub was, and the SH didn't have any issue. Plus, Access has been up and running for a few days, and this is the first time I've seen this happen. But, still worth a try.

If that doesn't work, I'll probably simply hard reset the Access and see what happens. If that doesn't work, I'll probably take my 5in1 offline and see if any rain gets reported. At least, that way, if it does still report, I'll know it's the Access (which is where I'm leaning, anyway).

Hopefully, someone from AcuRite will chime in here with some answers/solutions.

Another person just posted in here this evening that just experienced the same type of issue I am having (an instant spike in rainfall on MyAcuRite and WU, but no actual rainfall occurred). This other person also has a console, but that console reads zero rain fall. Sounds like an issue with Access itself.

And the problem continues today...2 more readings of .56" of rain.

Since I figure that AcuRite's initial response would be to reset the Access, I've already done that this morning after 2 more false readings (5 in total...all the same amount). Won't know if this takes care of the problem until I can monitor it more during the day to see if it happens again. If it does, I also won't know if this handles it long-term until more days have passed.

I sure hope someone from AcuRite will chime in on this. If this is going to be a persistent problem that happens from time to time, a permanent fix needs to happen...having me reset my Access every few days is not a fix.

Resetting Access did take my rain total for today back down to zero, but it is still showing the high for the day as 1.12" (which is 2 instances of .56").

Well, that lasted 2 days. Got up this morning, and AGAIN a reading of .56" of rain.

Hello Bart,

We attempted to locate your account on My AcuRite based off the email address registered to the community forum but were unable to do so. What is the city and state the device is registered in?  Have you experienced any internet outages? Do you have the battery back up in the Access?

No internet outages. Yes, the Access has brand new Energizer Max batteries installed.

I use a different email address for the community forums than I use for my MyAcuRite account. I didn't know if I should post my MyAcuRite account email address here, or is there a different way for me to get you that information?

I am registered in Phoenix, AZ.
