Rain rate drops to zero at 55 min past each hour - and accumulation is now super off!!

We had hard rain overnight and I noticed two problems that I've never seen before when I woke up.
1) we show 3x the amount of rain of every other weather station in a 5 mile radius.
It shows we had 6.82" when every other one is about 2".

which leads me to a strange symptom

2) if you look at the rain fall rate (as seen on my WU page), the rate drops from whatever it was during the hour to ZERO at exactly 55 min past every hour.  And it acted the same way with light rain again when it rained this afternoon.  Everyone else in the area has a steady rain rate line, and it was steadily raining, but my rate drops to zero at 55 past.  (For example, 755am rate reading is 1.26 yet 0 at 8am).  It steadily increases from top of each hour to the peak at 55 then back to zero.  Happened every hour it was raining from 2am to 8am.

I'm not sure if the rate of 1.26"/hr (and the steady increase ALL HOUR, EVERY HOUR) is wrong or the sudden drop is wrong.  I've NEVER seen rainfall this far off before.  Not even close.

The only thing that I've done the past month is change the batteries and take it down to replace a faulty temp / humidity sensor.  I realize that I can recalibrate, but what could cause it to be so far off (3x!!) and immediately, AND also drop the rain rate to zero each hour.  Makes me feel like an electronics issue, else, why would the rain rate reset to zero each hour (or go higher than it should).

Please help me figure out what is wrong.

Chris,

From what you've said, my guess is that while repairing your 5n1, the rain calibration was knocked way off. Did you inadvertently remove/replace the two calibration screws? A calibration tutorial can be found here:
https://www.acurite.com/kbase/weather-stations/01036_Weather_Station.html

Regarding rain rate resetting to zero at the top of the hour, well, that is a longstanding behavior of smartHUB's (I assume that's what you are using) that you may have not noticed before. It posts rain accumulated since the top of the hour as a statement of rate. The new Access device posts rain accumulated in the last 60 minutes (a sliding window), in conformance with the WU upload protocol.

Wunderground hasn't been consistent with plotting rain rate for a few years now since they changed their UI look.

Thanks John.  I did remove the wrong screws trying to get the cover off and put them back without thinking much of it.  Those might have been the calibration screws.  (In looking at the picture at https://www.acurite.com/learn/weather-stations/acurite-5-in-1-sensor, I'm 99.9% sure that's what I did).  Thank you so much for your help.  The only downside is that I have to climb up and take it down again.  But at least I have a solution!

And thanks for the comments on the rain rate.  As long as the accumulation can be fixed, I'm fine with the rain rate resetting!

OK!

That little mistake is definitely correctable!
Post again if you have difficulty, but I think you are on the right path now.
