New Access Model 09155M Replacing Existing Hub - Will Saved Data be Preserved

I am replacing an existing Hub with a new Access Model 09155M. My existing sensor is a 5-in-1. I have years of existing data on MyAccurite and a weather station on Weather Underground with years of existing data. When I do the replace will my existing data be preserved and will I be able to keep my existing Weather Underground station as is? Thank you!

From AcuRite tech support... BTW, I lost all my data.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for contacting Chaney Instrument Co. regarding your AcuRite product.

We wanted to let you know that the replace function does not keep your previous connection history.  The only way to save the data would have been to download the information to a cvs file.   The advantage of the "Replace" function is to keep all sensors and their names the same as on the previous device.

We apologize for the misunderstanding of how this function was going to work.

Should you require further assistance please contact our phone support at the number listed below.

Have a great day,

Marc

Hello Miculinic,

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.  To retrieve your data we would recommend you re-add your smartHUB back to My AcuRite. You will add back the sensors to your smartHUB that were on there previously. Once this is done you can download up to 30 days of data to a CSV file on your computer. We sincerely apologize for this. Please reach out to us should you have any additional questions.

Very disappointing. Seems like AcuRite really dropped the ball on making this an easy swap for existing hub users.

myAcurite only holds 30 days of data, not years.

Wunderground data is unaffected.

Thanks for the reply. That is good to know. The question I still have, that I have not yet received an answer for, is when I do swap the Access for my existing hub will I maintain my existing Wunderground station. That, for me, is a more important question.

I guess I don't understand what you are asking, then.

Your wunderground station and data will continue to exist.  Even if you delete your wunderground settings on myAcurite, your wunderground account and data will still be on wunderground.

I currently have a 5-in-1 sensor connected to an existing Hub which is registered and reporting as my station on Wunderground (KPAKUTZT4). When I replace my existing hub with the new Access keeping the same 5-in-1 sensor, my question is will the data still flow to my existing Wunderground station.

Hello Mark,

We are sorry you are having a problem with getting the replace function to work. What is the issue you are experiencing? You should be able to log into your account go to your devices profile and hit the replace button that should be blue. Once that is hit you would enter the device ID from your AcuRite Access and it will replace the smartHUB with the AcuRite Access.

Jennifer just a quick question. I you use the replace function when changing over from the smarthub to the access would that then free up the smarthub to be passed to someone else to use without it coming up as in use buy someone else?

Jennifer,
I have been on the phone with AcuRite tech support several times. All of the normal trouble shooting steps have already been performed. They are not yet able to solve the problem. Please reference case # 00606479 for details. Thank you.

Hello Ledrak,

That would free up the smartHUB to be passed on to someone else if you choose to do so.

Hello Mark,

I can see that you are working with one of our AcuRite Loyalty Representatives who is setting up a RMA with you. I can see the last correspondence was yesterday. It is under a different case number than provided above. Please let us know if there is anything we can assist you with.

IMO, Acurite should have provided better instructions for existing users. During setup of the new Access, MyAcurite was only showing the info from our former hub, so we deleted it, thinking couldn't be there simultaneously with the new one. That worked, the current data is showing up just dandy with the Access. But in the process all former data is gone. Not a big deal, as it is saved from our 5-in-1 sensor and in Wunderground, but it would have been nice to have had data saved on MyAcurite for our other sensors.

Perhaps Acurite will take the hint and provide better setup instructions for existing users. :)

Now it would be nice if Wunderground would get their act together, as it has been pretty fiesty lately.

In the interim before Acurite provides better instructions, would you have any tips for those of us upgrading from the older Smart Hub?   Mine is arriving today.

I apologize that  we missed the question. You can do as you wish with your old unit.  There is no personal information stored on it.

I would say wait. As of today I still cannot do a “replace” with my new Access and have still not heard back from AcuRite tech support.

Oops. Didn't realize that in addition to just setting up the new Access device, we also needed to reset the Wunderground sharing settings. Missed about 5 hours, but got it set up now and it is feeding through just fine. Oddly, it seemed to be flowing to WU just after we'd set it up but later on I found nothing there.

Appreciate your findings; can you elaborate on what you mean when you say you 'reset' the sharing settings?  Also, was this on My Acurite or on WU?

On MyAcurite, go to Settings - Share Weather. Then add your device to "Sharing to Weather Underground." You will need your Station ID and Station Key (Password) from WU to do this.

Thanks; that's pretty much what I expected but I just wanted to be sure.  At least at this point I have both on line and communicating.  I'll get WU switched over after I'm  done running them in parallel.

Appreciate you and the other folks here taking the time to share their experiences.

Hello Laurie B,

That is correct. You would need to enter your Weather Underground credentials again as if it is a new set up. The connection name would need to be changed and then make sure you are transmitting the correct sensor.

Hey AcuRite...how about a set of instructions for your users that are migrating from a hub to an Access to get all this done correctly? It certainly would be better than all of us trying to figure it out for ourselves!

Mark is dead on about this - would be nice if a FAQ would be put together for us loyal customer early adopter types... you know, the ones who buy your products and suggest them to others?  Thanks!

Hello Mark & Robert,

For those of you using the new AcuRite Access I have included some instructions based off everyone's feedback. We apologize that these were not included. The picture of the way you insert the batteries in the AcuRite Access is incorrect, and we are working on getting this corrected.   Before you replace the smartHUB with the AcuRite Access we do recommend downloading the last 30 days of your data as this will not transfer over. If you are transmitting to Weather Underground with your smartHUB, you will need to remove your Weather Underground sharing and add it back with the connection being the AcuRite Access. (It would be the name that you picked when you named the device) You will then add the sensor you want to transmit to Weather Underground. Please type out your station Id and password. Do not copy and paste the information. If the station ID and password do not work, please try the station ID and passkey. . I will post this at the bottom of the thread as well. Again our apologies. Should there be any other questions please let us know.

Got it now. Question then is why it took almost a week and I had to rely on a user in a user group to get me there? Sorry but I call that a fail on AcuRite's part.

Thank you George, I certainly appreciate it. And thankfully their are helpful users here on this forum. My only point, and others have expressed the same, is that it's unfortunate that AcuRite went to all the trouble of reaching out to the existing Hub users with a discount offer on the new Access but provided no information or even a pointer to migration instructions. I am not the only one who has come on these forums struggling with how to get it done and with questions about their WU data feeds. Not to mention how many users have struggled with it and don't even post here.

I upgraded from a smart hub yesterday without a hitch. Followed the instructions for replacing a smart hub. Works great...get 5 bars signal from my 5 in 1 instead of 2 on the smart hub!
