New 5 in 1 station that doesn't need aspiration fan?

After the 3rd dual panel with aspiration fan failing, I am going to receive an updated 06003M station. This I am told will do the trick. I am hoping with fingers crossed. It's apparent that Acurite is doing everything they can to fix and save this unit. But I often wonder if it would be more cost effective for the company to come up with a new design that does NOT require an aspiration fan to obtain a good temperature reading? It seems that this has been such a hassle for not only customers over the years but Acurite also. Would love to hear from others about this idea including any one such as George Nincehelser and/or Acurite personnel.

I'm having the same problem.   Fan will not work even if all obstructions are cleared and the solar panel is facing towards direct sunlight.   I also ordered one of thos 06003M units, hoping it will fix the problem.   The unit had been operating correctly for over a year before the fan broke.   I suppose it broke this winter.   I'll bet a little water got in there and froze, thus locking the blade, but the motor was still trying to spin.    Best guess anyhow.   I agree with the idea of having a unit that doesn't require a fan, but then again the fan running on solar power so it ventilates more just when needed is pretty ingenious.

Here's one other thing.   I took the whole 5n1 sensor inside and it was in there for over an hour.   The inside temp on the Acurite display was reading 71.    However the outdoor temp was reading 75.   Maybe they purposely built in a 3-4 degree high reading, to support global warming? :-)

With the sensor chip inside the housing, the outdoor temp does read about 2 degrees high at times. I took off 1.3 degrees in my software, so that I am reporting a proper ambient temperature to websites. My CWOP / Nat. Wx Service readings are very good now.

Hello Everyone,

The standard accuracy of the 5in1 sensor is +/- 2 degrees. The purpose of the fan is to keep your 5in1 cooled down when in direct sunlight. Without the aspirating fan your temperature would read about 10 to 15 degrees higher than what it really is. The 06003M models that were purchased will correct the issue. If you are in need of further assistance please let us know. Thank you.
