I have a 5 in 1 sensor that I got for Christmas with the 06039 display. I have downloaded the app as it advertises as being able to connect to a smart phone (iPad in this case). I am now discovering it says it must be connected to the router? I don’t have the display connected to a pc and do not intend to. Am I right in that I would need to order this 100 dollar plus hub to connect.... to my iPad? Other ones on the market have wi-if. Does this not in 2018?.

In order to send data to the internet to be accessed by your smarrphone, there must be some way to send the data first to myAurite's servers.

You can do this either with a PC Connect displlay attached to a pc running 24/7, or you could buy an Acurite Access.

TheSmartHUB  Access dooes not use WiFi tecnology.   Just a simple Ethernet cable between the device and your network.

On your data has been sent to myAcurite''s servers, you may access it via Wifi or your cell data plan as you wish.

Yes, you've got it right. The display you have is intended to connect to a PC to connect to an outside network.
The 'network' between the 5n1 and display is proprietary to Accurite and designed for ultra low power so the 5n1 can operate 6-12 months on a set of batteries. No WiFi.
The SmartHub listens to the 5n1 and other Accurite sensors and forwards the measurements through cabled Ethernet. Data from the hub is uploaded to Accurite servers which is then available in the app.

Hello Redr2,

You would need to have your display plugged into a computer. If you do not want to have it plugged into the computer you would need to purchase the AcuRite Access to see the information via your tablet, smart phone, or computer. I have attached the link for the AcuRite Access.
