My new 5 -1 system shows rain in the forecast by mistake, normal for a new unit because of the Learning Mode?

I notice that on my new 5-1 system the 12 to 24 hour forecast shows rain even though it's clear, 85 degrees and no rain is in the forecast. Is this rain forecast simply a "mistake" because the units new and is still in the Learning Mode?

Maybe, but one thing you need to remember is that it is only basing a forecast on very limited data from one sensor and some basic forecasting rules for your geographic region (limited to North America).  It doesn't have access to things like radar, satellite, and live professional meteorologists running computer models and simulations.

So you have to take the forecast with a grain of salt.   I find mine are typically in the general ballpark, but I don't go any further than that.

Thanks, it'll be interesting to see if and how it changes over the next few days.

The 4 hour and 4-8 hour forecasts are usually pretty accurate.  The 8-12 hour forecast will often show a much higher and unrealistic chance of rain.  In fact, I just leave that widget off the dashboard.  I guess another way to look at it is that we nearly always have high humidity over night (90+%) and heavy dew at that time which could be interpreted as light rain.

Hi Clint1583,

George makes some very good points regarding the forecasting.  For more information on how Self-Calibrating Weather Forecasting works, please visit this link:
