We are currently experiencing an outage on My AcuRite due to a server provider outage. This is affecting the Charts and Details page and also current data readings. It could also affect alerts as the data is not updating. We will update you here as soon as we have further details.

My day looked pretty rough today so far. First gap showed up a little before midnight last night and progressively got worse. I checked a nearby Acurite station and showed one gap so far and checked others nearby and no gaps yet. I have been removed from the WU map for a while now. First screenshot is mine and second screenshot is their's.

Ok, checked more Acurite stations around and are receiving gaps now. Ones that were not showing gaps when I initially checked, are now showing gaps.

Since the gap fix a week or two ago all three of my stations have been gap free. The two stations I have that only show one bar for connection status I have played with the location and position of the smartHUB to stop the missed transmissions. Even though they only show one bar still, I have found a position which eliminates or greatly reduces the missed data points. I used the smartHUB web page to help locate the best position using the signal strength for my 5 in 1 sensor.

What do you mean by the "smartHUB web page"?

When I first heard it mentioned earlier I was wondering if the local IP address browsing worked on some internet bridges/smartHUBs still, because you could see signal strengths in there.  (???)   I wish that local access still worked, but since the "upgrade" it doesn't for me and I have tried getting my lights back on (since they were off during the upgrade) by using the "hold the button for 10 seconds" method and it does nothing.

Or are you talking about looking at the myacurite web page indicators that appear when you "hover over" the colored bar beside the meter name?

Also, if you manage your own router, you should be able to view the DHCP client list which would show you the IP addresses of everything on your LAN.  On mine, the smarthub shows with a client name of "unknown" (I wish I could set it to something).  I don't know if this will help anyone, but at some point, I rebooted everything and the Smarthub was not communicating with WU or MyAcurite.  I noticed that after the reboot, the hub IP address was different.  I remembered the address that it had been assigned previously, and set the router up to reserve that address for the hub.  It has worked well since (except for the WU gaps, of course).

This station near me is getting it really bad now, but mine actually got better when their's got worse. Their's is the first one and mine is the second one.

Mark,

For several days running now, this morning included (6:26 AM 3/26 AEST time), your Conondale station has glitched out just as the sun has come up your time. One glitch included a rain reset (AM 3/25) , and is suggestive of a hard hub reset. Maybe your power distribution is not as clean as you think, with load-side glitches happening. When do the vent fans on your hen-houses kick in?

I check just before the glitch and thought all was well for now ...

Hen's are free ranging and no vent fans connected to this power system. Biggest electricity consumer is a commercial fridge at about 800 W

Have also switched a water transfer pump on this morning but that was way past 7am local time...

Anyway, I am preparing to remove the smartHub in the next few weeks. It is much to fickle for my taste / use.

Trying a display with PC Connect next. However won't be using the Acurite software but weewx (http://weewx.com/) open-source software. From reading this forum I got the impression that the Acurite software is not without it's issues.

Before purchasing the Acurite system I was using an Oregon Scientific station with open source software and that worked better than this smartHub.

Only reason I am no longer using the Oregon station is because the outdoor sensors got completly destroyed during a severe hail storm late last year.

I really don't get it, not as much as a hiccup since after the March 1st debacle. I have the smartHub connected to a swithch by a 50 foot ethernet cable, and that by a 25 foot through the wall and a 10 foot to the router. The only issues have been ducumented WU glitches

Don't Ask! BUT you did so.....
I've discovered that PC Connect works best on my "Virtual" Windows 8. I'm using Parallels Desktop 6 on Mac 10.6.8, though I could boot up on a hard drive with whatever the latest Mac OS is today, but all of my "Go To" applications only run on Mac 10.6.8. Anyway, even though Windows 8 is/was working flawlessly I decided to "tweak" it and then had to re-install 220 + updates. Anyway it's back even though Windows 8 is still updating. Aren't you glad you asked?    :)

Hmmm technology makes us all happy. Just installed my new Davis Vantage Vue, plugged in my old Davis data logger and got an incompatible error. Another $60 for an upgraded logger and a week wait. Maybe by fall I'll be back posting to WU.

I finally switched back to my Virtual Windows 7 and all is working, though I do not have "Schedule automatic data transfers" on the ACURITE PC Connect checked because checking it might be problematic.

I have had three gaps since noon today.....first in a long time...have kept WU Gold Star for awhile as well...probably be gone tomorrow but to me that part is no big deal.  BUT something else is going on with Acurite....I would be a good time for them to make a statement about it before we all start trying to sort out the problem on this end......and, before they start getting voluminous calls and emails.  I have stopped subscribing to all but this thread so unless they put a status report on all threads I'll miss it....just as I have in the past.

Update: make it 4 and still 2 hours to go in this day!

Hello Jack,

After reviewing your My AcuRite and Weather Underground charts I am not seeing any data gaps as of today. I do not see any gaps on your My AcuRite charts and details as of yesterday either. On the smartHUB you will see a white sticker by the Ethernet and ac adapter plug in. It will read QC with 4 numbers. Can you please tell me what these 4 numbers are?

Thank you.

Tori,  In response to your questions above, I am attaching a screen shot of the gaps on WU on May 3rd...there were a total of 4 as you will see.  I have not had any since that time.  The QC number from my Hub is QC 4714.https://support.acurite.com/acurite/topics/my-acurite-outage-jj8j1mdjmrfjb?utm_source=notification&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=new_reply&utm_content=reply_button&reply[id]=18633430

I have tried to switch back to using the smart hub a couple of times but I still get the gaps and other problems so I just stay with using Kevin's Software on my PC. It has been a couple of months now with zero gaps or any problems. Probably the longest most enjoyable trouble free run I have experienced since I first purchased my PWS years ago.

Hello Martin,

We are sorry to hear that your smartHUB was not functioning as designed. We would be more than happy to go through troubleshooting with you. What is your smartHUB doing? In the back of the smartHUB you will see a white sticker that reads QC with 4 numbers on it. Can you please provide me with these 4 numbers.

Thank you.

I've completely given up on the SmartHub...
I managed to get my hands on a display with USB port and have connected that to my computer and am using weewx (http://weewx.com/ - open source ! ) to collect data, store on my computer, and then upload to Wunderground (all automatically). That works really well for me.
Only gaps I have on Wunderground now, is when I reboot my computer after applying updates.

Unfortunately I've already done so in an earlier iteration with another Acurite Rep and at the time I was told to return the smartHub to Amazon where I purchased it.
So, no, I won't going through this again since I now have system that works as expected.

To be quite honest, I am quite underwhelmed by the support of Acurite. Over the course of multiple days I provided all information asked by the Acurite Rep to then be basically told... sorry we don't support the smartHub in Australia and Acurite can't help me. I should just return the smartHub.

Hi Tom
Yeah... fully agree. Australians are known to be early adopters of technology, if given a chance ...

At this time I am still with Acurite. I am just using an Acurite display with a USB port so I can get the data onto my computer and Wunderground.
The way I see Wunderground, it is my off-site backup of historical weather data for our location. So for me, it is very important that my off-site backup is functional.

Unfortunately it seems like Acurite don't view Wunderground like that. I get the feeling that Acurite think, Wunderground is just some "Social Media" like site.

Tom I think it's best to return it based on the trouble I have had with my three Acurite stations after the migration. I thought it was a decent product until they changed the bridge into a smartHUB and created a lame interface.

Mine do work better now but I still have to check them when every it rains for resets and accumulation carry-overs after midnight.

I have lots of gaps today in my Temp data but we had a heck of a storm here in Olympia, WA yesterday and I think the problem lies in the lines or local equipment.

I don't have any gaps, but I noticed that a nearby station does. I have the smart hub. BUT mysteriously I have that pesky "weak" signal again, yet I'm still in the green and transmitting. I was previously "strong" and absolutely nothing has changed. My hub is in the exact same location, facing the exact same way, so weird.

Hello Laura Paine,

The smartHUB measures a true signal on it. You need at least 1 bar to transmit your data online. You can try to improve the signal by moving the smartHUB out as far as you can from the router without disconnecting the Ethernet cable and making sure the smartHUB is at least  3 feet away from any electronics. You can also rotate the smartHUB 90 degrees.

Thank you.

One short gap at 2:45am and then no problems until 20:16 this evening when WU just stopped updating from Acurite.  Mybackyard weather console showed correct readings so had to unshare to WU and the re-establish sharing to WU before rapidfire updates resumed.  I don't believe it was an Acurite problem.
