My AcuRite loses connection to 5in1WS

I just got a new AcuRite weather station.  I am using the PC Connect software.  I can establish a connection to the 5in1WS initially but then I get a "Communication Loss" message 30 minutes later and a "Loss of Signal" message 60 minutes later.  I can fix the connection (from red to green) in the software by editing the sensor and "saving" but it won't seem to stay.  Any ideas?

Hello Keith,

Please go into your Windows Device Manager. Click on properties of each entry under Universal Serial Bus Controllers. For entries that have a power management tab uncheck the box that says Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power. Once this box is unchecked you should not lose signal. If you continue to have a problem, please let us know. Thank you. Enjoy your day!

I am still having the same problem almost 3 months out. Power save has done nothing to remedy it. I have been off for 5 weeks now since I am not home to try to get it back online. I will be watching to see if your gets fixed and how.

Hello moosmith,

Make sure that your PC does not go into sleep mode. In order for the information to transmit online, the following things need to happen.

You need to keep the display plugged into the computer

You need to have the software running

The computer needs to stay on and running (going into sleep mode will prevent any readings from transmitting)

The computer needs to be online at all times

If one of these things is not happening that could be why your information is not transmitting online.

What operating system are you using for PC Connect?  How much RAM do you have?  Thank you. Have a good day!

It looks like I was able to get it working now.  The USB power management did not fix it.  The power profile on my PC was set to put the monitor to sleep in 30 minutes.  I don't know what that has to do with USB devices but apparently something.  Make sure no devices are set to go to "sleep".  Also, I guess the PC Connect software needs to be running.  It would be nice if this could be converted to a Windows service.  In fact, it would be really nice if we didn't need this unnecessary software.  The product is advertised as a "wireless" weather solution but a USB cable doesn't sound wireless to me.  Why not put Wifi into the indoor base unit?  It already has wireless components to talk to the outdoor sensor.  Pretty much everything has Wifi these days.  Would be a much more elegant solution than clunky software and USB cables.

Hello Keith,

We are sorry for your frustration but appreciate your feedback.  We will certainly keep this in mind for possible future products.  We do have another method to transfer data online. We have the smartHUB that connects directly into your router instead of using your computer. We have provided a link below for your convenience.  Thank you and have a great day!

What version of PC connect software are you using ? Since you have had this problem for months maybe you never updated to the new version . I believe the new version is 2.0.1  . If you open PC connect look at the bottom left for the version .  Remember to delete the old software completely before upgrading to the new version . Here's a link to the software ::::  https://www.acurite.com/kbase/downloads/PC_Connect_My_AcuRite.html
