My 01536 Station suddenly started reading rainfall about 8-10 times greater than actual

I cleaned the strainer, changed batteries Duricell, reset the base unit, calibrated the rain with no improvement; backed the 2 bottom adjustment screws out all the way and the unit still reads 8-10 inches of rain per 8 oz test of water. I changed from A to B & C on base and remote units without improvement. The unit is firmly mounted, has no wind sway at all. It worked well for a year in the same location & mount, then suddenly began to read far more rain than occurred. I called CS 262..... phone over a dozen times; the shortest wait time was 70 min, the greatest 405; So I hung up, I don't have that amount of time; CS PLEASE RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION....WHAT DO I DO NOW? The unit was purchased from COSTCO, so if it can't be repaired/calibrated etc I will return it for a full refund.

Hello JDB,

Have you opened the sensor and cleaned out the inside? If not, please do. Please verify you are using the battery recommendations and try the troubleshooting steps in order below. After this has been done, we will recommend going through the full calibration on the sensor. For your convenience, there is a link below to a video that will assist you with calibration.

Batteries:

•Verify you are using fresh alkaline batteries or lithium batteries (when temperature is below -4°F/-20°C) in sensor.

•Quality brand batteries are recommended, including Duracell, Rayovac, Energizer, or Kirkland.

•Verify batteries are fresh. The battery expiration date should be at least 6 years out. Batteries can lose 3% power or more every year in storage.

•Heavy duty, extra strength or generic / store brand batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the way these types of batteries disperse power. Each battery should not exceed 1.6 volts.

•Rechargeable batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the voltage instability of these types of batteries.

•Mixing different battery types (brands, old/new, etc.) is not recommended.

Hard reset:
- Bring both units side by side and remove all batteries, unplug display if it has an ac adapter
- Change the ABC Switch to a different setting and ensure that both are on the same setting. example - If on A, move both to C
- Place batteries into the outdoor sensor first
- Place batteries into display
- Allow units to sit side by side until they connect.

Rachael, Thank You for the information. The HARD RESET corrected everything and the unit now measures accurately .
