Model 01515 not connecting to outside unit after battery replacement - I've followed the instructions

I've followed the instructions for troubleshooting.  Replacing the batteries in the sensor first, then the base unit, changing the channel (ABC), sitting them side by side for 20 min (they've been there for two days now).  With the upcoming winter months, I replaced the batteries in both units with fresh Duracell non-rechargables.  The interior unit seems to work/display properly, but now it will not detect the outside sensor.  As I've said, I followed the troubleshooting guide to a "T", but no change in the issue.  Do I now need to replace the unit?  If so, then I'd not be very happy, as it is roughly one year old, and worked fine up until now.  Yes, the batteries are in properly :)

@Jim Ponto, I ultimately bought a new unit, as the one I had trouble with, never was able to be fixed/corrected.
