LCD Displays Failing

I seem to be suffering from poor quality LCD panels in desktop units.  First one was a gift, with an outdoor temp/humidity 'tower' sensor.  After a little more than a year, the panel developed dead areas.  Having been hooked on weather monitoring by that time, I purchased a 5-in-1 system that included a new desktop monochrome panel and smarthub.  After having the 5-in-1 replaced due to a dead on arrival wind direction sensor, the system has been working fairly well (including the original tower sensor for additional information).  However, this monochrome panel is also showing dead bands in it, much like the first one (different model).  I'm off warranty, so I'm a little annoyed that I'm apparently stuck to buy yet ANOTHER display to enjoy the remainder of my investment in sensors.

Please, let's not go down the 'check batteries' road.  That's not the problem this time and it wasn't the problem the last time.  I suspect low quality LCD panels that simply don't last.

Is there a way to replace the display with a 'core exchange' of some sort that might make this a little less costly?

Hello Brock,

Please factory reset the display unit. To factory reset your display, press and hold the reset button located inside the battery compartment for 10-12 seconds.  Please let us know if the issue continues.  Thank you and have a great day!

I changed the batteries and also did a complete reset.  As suspected, nothing has changed.  This is what I see:

Notice that the obvious dead area on the big digits doesn't extend all the way across the screen.  Also notice that there are problem spots in the lower portion of the display as well.  in other words, the screen has problems all over the place.

As per my first post... how can I replace this display in an affordable manner? Considering the display to be a 'consumable' like the batteries really isn't an idea I want to entertain!

Hello Brock,

We are sorry to see this happened to the display. We do have a 1 year warranty on our products so if something should happen to the display in that time frame it would be covered under the warranty. Thank you. enjoy your day!

Well, like the previous display, this one failed at around 18 months.  I'm renting the Acurite stuff it would seem.  Failures like this shouldn't happen this regularly if the components were of reasonable quality.

If I can't get replacements at a reasonable price (or even with fair shipping), I might as well start building a system from another brand.  $10 a month to have a working panel seems steep.

Hello Brock,

There is a promotion going currently where you receive 20% off of a display. The promo code is UPGRADE. It does expire today, and if you have a display that is over $50 dollars in price and are located in the United States it would quality for free shipping. Thank you. Enjoy your day!

Yes, I'm aware of the promotion.  As noted above, I'm in Canada and the shipping is prohibitive at $31-$35.  I began the process of ordering a new unit and stopped when I got to the shipping.  By the time I add it in, and do the exchange calculation, it becomes a $120 device.  And given my poor luck with these things, I'm not interested in spending that much money on what experience has shown is actually a 'disposable' unit.
