Email from Acurite says they will end all support after Aug31. Is this going to render my old bridge useless ? They offer an "upgrade"  at discount price.

My set-up is working perfectly well at the moment. Why should I throw more money at this company for upgrading to something that I don't need? Keeping the website online costs them minimal amounts; forcing this upgrade on us is a nasty scam! Not a happy customer here :(

For many -( including me )   " Access "  offers NOTHING -

My current hub works perfectly -  the only reason it wont - is Acurite is taking it off line and " purposely "  making it obsolete !

Just got my replacement in today, first one lasted a month, now this one acts different and can't get data sent server. I'm looking at going with Raspberry pi 3 and send my data to pwsweather.com

Gary I'd also be interested in exactly what you did there as well! Personally I was considering tearing apart my old bridge to make use of the radio receiver, and then using a program on either a Pi or equivalent to archive data and post to a weather page as well. So what are you using WeatherDisplay?

Open source is the best way to break out from this "upgrade" racket.  The Pi or even an Arduino could serve as a better connection to the outside world.

With this news, how long will it be before they force us to upgrade again... Next they will change the 5 in 1 and make it to where we have to get a new upgraded 5 in 1 unit... I am thinking about going to Peet Brothers... Theirs is wired, but they have never force people to upgrade, and right now, I would not recommend anyone to Acurite after this crap!

This upgrade is a scam to get more money out of us!!  All four of our hubs are working fine. Time to look else where

Agreed !   My modem, router and acurite components are already connected to a long running UPS.  My gain = 0      My losses should be obvious.    Discount my A- -.   I am jumping ship...looking for hardware from a company that wont scam me.

Mark, the old unit did not archive data so even with a UPS you still lost data points. This not so bad for the upgrade price. But if you find a better system more power to you. I just wish I could get another one for the upgrade price.

I agree. I am another dissatisfied customer to look at other manufactures for any new purchases. Will try open source option. Will need to find the protocol.

Let us know here if you find something open source, I've not really found anything suitable for my needs, which are fairly basic.

Yes, this is a total BS move. How can you discontinue support, and render useless, a product that is still under warranty. Just got mine a few months ago. Anyone know a good lawyer to sue them over this? Someone will I'm sure!

Hello Mark,

As of September 1, 2018 the smartHUB will no longer be able to publish to My AcuRite. You would need to upgrade to the AcuRite Access. Please let us know if there is anything further we can assist you with.

Hello Michael,
We apologize for the delay in response. After reviewing feedback and speaking with a number of you, we are extending the end of service/support of the AcuRite smartHUB to February 28, 2019.

Dear Accurate, this is NOT acceptable. Certainly not a bright move as a business model. Do NOT obsolete this bridge and force an upgrade. I understand not supporting it with firmware updates but you need to understand the impact if you brick it! Thanks

There are a few of us who have pretty much had it with AcuRite.... Forcing and upgrade that has minimal to no affect, they tell us it has to do with the future, but says nothing of what to expect...

There are alternatives, and one that some of us are looking at is the "Ambient Weather" models that you can find online at https://www.ambientweather.com/amws8478.html or do search on Amazon. They also have a dashboard and a few more add on's that I personally have been looking for...One other thing that I like is there 5N1 also is an 8N1 and has a SD Card to where you can get the raw data for Excel or SQL uses.

I have also noted on some things that they are getting over priced. I found 2 items that I purchased online and found them in Walmart for 10 to 20 dollars cheaper... I personally do not see a bright future for acurite when they are doing business practices the way they are starting to do so!

One thing that you mentioned is "force an upgrade" - I am not certain that it is an upgrade as much as it is a downgrade... the old unit would support 10 sensors, the new only 7. Sure it has battery backup, and uploads up to 24 hours of data when it returns, but give me a break. I have a UPS on it, I haven't lost power more than 3 hours in 8 years and I see this more as a downgrade. I have also noted that during Rain it does not receive all the data from the rain gauge and differs from the display units... the old unit did not do that and this is supposed to be stronger and better.... UGH I still have not seen that to be true in any point.

I live outside US/Canada, which means the discount is also useless to me.

I purchased a hub just a short while ago and feel pretty hard done by.

Those mentioning pi/arduino etc, is there some way to send data to myAcurite and WU with a home made set up?  Does anyone have a build guide for that?

I also live outside the country, I heard you can replace and configure a Raspberry pi 3, in place of the hub, I just got the raspberry in the mail and have not had to do the change over, but by reading , it looks like it should be no problem. $35 total to me is the best way to go.
