Have any of you tried to replace the batteries in your weather sensor with an A/C adapter?

Have any of you tried to replace the batteries in your weather sensor with an A/C adapter?  I see there are four 1.5 volt batteries in the weather sensor. So I thought I would buy a 6 volt AC adapter and next time I needed to replace the batteries I would wire this 6 volt adapter with extended  wire to power the outside sensor. When I took the sensor down to wire in the 6 volt adapter I found that it looks like the sensor has two 3 volt circuits in it. I would only guess that one circuit is the transmitter and the other powers the station. So I just replaced the batteries and put the station bak up. Then I bought a 3 volt AC adapter and am now ready to wire it up. My question is "have any of you wired a AC adapter into your weather  sensor?" and if so Did you just feed 3 volts DC into each feed in the sensor?

I have successfully added a 3 volt AC/DC adapter to my 5 in 1 sensor.
I too was having trouble with the battery life. 
The first set of batteries lasted about a year. Now the batteries don't last 2-3 months at best.
I use the best eveready lithium batteries with no luck.

Today it was time to change the batteries. My 5in1 sensor is on a 3' pole on top of  one of my utility buildings.

While I had the sensor down I brought it into my house and started to experiment with it.

I found that it will work with only 2 batteries. So I soldered a pair of wires  to topside of the battery compartment. (Keeping track of  the polarity of the wires.)Then ran the wire out the bottom and down the pole and into the building. Soldered the leads to a 3 volt AC/DC adapter that plugs into the wall. 

NO MORE BATTERY PROBLEMS!

Be careful.  A fast battery drain usually means something is wrong with the circuitry.  With normal power consumption the lifetime should be about 18 to 24 months.

One user here had the temp/humidity module start smoking after such an adaptation.

There seems to be a problem with these sensors.

I checked the old batteries when I took them out and only 2 were dead. the other two were fine but the thing did not work,
they were only 2-3 months old.

The batteries are arranged in two banks.  Each bank is two batteries in serial.  Both banks are then wired together in parallel.

It sounds as if either one bank was somehow disconnected (maybe a bad contact), or one bank had the batteries mis-inserted.

The 5n1 will run with only one bank working, but the  battery life will be greatly shortened.

If that's is/was the cause, your AC conversion should be OK as long as the temp/humidity module doesn't short out.  (It's not always the cause of battery drain, but it is the most "exposed" circuitry to the elements).

Do you'all realise that there is an external battery pack with a 30' cable on it?

Yes, But the lithium batteries are very expensive and my sensor eats them.

No more battery problems at 20 below zero in a blizzard anymore.
