Acurite Support:

Now that temperatures are getting above the 50's in my area, I noticed the weather station reporting temperatures typically 8-10 degrees higher than surrounding units in the area.  Once temps approached the high 60's and low 70's, it recorded temps in the 80's.  It is mounted in a field and not near any pavement or structures.  Wunderground has kicked this unit off several times now. :(

I took it apart according to Acurite's posted instructions and based on other posts that have similar problems. I observed the fan will only run when I start it with my finger when pointing both solar panels at the sun.  And when it starts, it spins slowly and sometimes quits altogether.  I read in another post, that if the unit does not have a red/white wire it may be a troubled unit.  This unit has a black/red wire.  This unit was purchased last Christmas 2015 from Amazon.com. Is there a fan upgrade available for this 2 month old unit? Please advise!

Thanks,

I had the same thing happen and acurite support sent me a new fan assembly. The temps are still a bit higher than my other weather station but not the 10+ degrees it had with the old fan during the summer. Contact their support. They are very helpful. Good Luck.

Just wanted to post a follow up to this issue as a matter of record. Under warranty, AcuRite sent me a new top assembly (Wind Cups, Solar panels and fan).  As indicated by others, it had the white/red wires on the new fan as opposed to the red/black wires on the defective unit.  Night and day difference. The temps are down where they are supposed to be and are no longer spiking and kicking me off of Wunderground.  I am no longer the hottest PWS in the valley. :)  I did a side by side test of both units in the sun and the defective fan assembly would quit under some light conditions where the new assembly would keep on working.  Also it was quite noticeable that the new fan would keep spinning  for some length of time  after the light was taken away whereas the defective unit would stop abruptly.
