Design New (Compatible) Pool Temperature Sensor

I have used the Acurite Model 00617 floating pool temperature sensor (sold by Home Depot) for years and enjoyed adding that sensor to my Acurite display (the hub saw the floating sensor).  It allowed me to track pool temperature (and solar heater) data no matter where in the world I found myself.

While I love the new Acurite SmartHub display with its easily accessed graphs etc, the the new SmartHub apparently can't see that older pool sensor.  A shame.  I know there's a liquid temp sensor available but it involves a couple of extraneous sensors that duplicate what many of us already have in the 5-in-1 and other weather stations.

So, sensor designers, how about a small 'liquid only' product that will send pool/spa (or just your morning coffee) temperatures to the smart hub.  Perhaps just a water resistant redesign of the existing temperature/humidity sensor but with a waterproof probe to record the temperature.  Or (how hard could this be) code the new SmartHub to receive signals from the 00617 sending unit.
