Cannot establish connection between units (Model 1097B)

I have Acurite model 1097b. since day one it's was giving me hard time establishing connection between the sensor and the main unit but somehow playing around with channels a/b/c i was always able to establish the connectivity. Now fora week I'm unable to restore the lost connection. The unit is about 2-3 years old and I would like to get a couple more years more:) If anybody could advise of any solution that would be very highly appreciated. THANKS!

Hi Tevik,

If you are getting an intermittent connection between the display and sensor it is typically caused by interference.  Finding the ideal location for wireless products may be resolved through trial and error. Sometimes, relocating the product(s) even a very small distance may provide a significantly better, and more reliable signal connection. AcuRite wireless range specifications are based on the average range one can expect in a standard home installation environment, however, there are some steps that can be taken to maximize or increase wireless range:

• Reduce local interference from other electronic devices. It's important to install AcuRite wireless products at least 3 feet (.9 m) away from electronics that may interfere with the wireless communication, such as: TVs, Microwaves, Computers, Laptops, Fluorescent lights, Refrigerators, Cordless phones, USB-powered devices like webcams & keyboards.

• Increase the mounting height. A wireless signal traveling close to the ground and through things like windows, walls, bushes, grass, drywall, etc., reduces the potential range.

• Relocate the product(s) to a different location. For products with both a sensor (transmitter) and/or display (receiver), it may help to relocate both parts to improve wireless range.

Perform a hard reset:
  1. Bring both the sensor and display unit indoors and position them side by side.
  2. Remove all batteries from the sensor.
  3. Remove all power from the display unit.
  4. Wait 1 minute to ensure that any remaining battery power has discharged from both units.
  5. Inside each battery compartment you'll find an A-B-C switch, be sure these match each other.  You may also want to try changing to a different setting.
  6. Reinstall batteries in outdoor sensor first.
  7. Reinstall batteries (and/or connect AC adapter) in display last.
  8. Let units sit within a couple feet of each other for 5 minutes to ensure a wireless signal is received.
    *The display should receive the signal within several minutes. 
  9. After a connection has been established you may place the sensor outdoors. 
    *If the signal connection fails after the units are separated try a new location for the display unit, the sensor or both.

hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your recommendations but nothing worked. I've tried everything. New batteries, A/B/C switch and main unit positions and all tests were done in the shed where there is no interference of any kind. When I turn it on it seems like the main unit is trying to get the wireless signal, so my blame is on the sensor. Anyway, thanks for your suggestions - I'll go buy a new one:)
