Battery Life on Model 00609A1TX Temperature & Humidity Sensor, batteries only last only a few days.

Battery Life? Model 00609A1TX Temperature and Humidity sensor. My 1.5 volt Durecell Alkaline batteries only last a few days! I am going through batteries like water. Why and what to do? I notice that this unit is not listed in "RELATED CATEGORIES"???   Bob M in NC

Hello Bob,

Make sure you have the batteries installed correctly. Typically the batteries will drain when the polarity is off. Use a high quality alkaline battery such as Rayovac, Energizer, Duracell or Kirkland. The batteries should last you around 8-12 months in this unit depending on the name brand of the batteries. I'm having a similar issue. Purchased sensor with base this summer The last three month the new Duracell batteries last a month at most.

Batteries:
•Verify you are using fresh alkaline batteries or lithium batteries (when temperature is below -4oF/-20oC) in sensor.
•Quality brand batteries are recommended, including Duracell, Rayovac, Energizer, or Kirkland.
•Verify batteries are fresh. The battery expiration date should be at least 6 years out. Batteries can lose 3% power or more every year in storage.
•Heavy duty, extra strength or generic / store brand batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the way these types of batteries disperse power. Each battery should not exceed 1.6 volts.
•Rechargeable batteries are not recommended for use with AcuRite products because they may cause performance irregularities due to the voltage instability of these types of batteries.
•Mixing different battery types (brands, old/new, etc.) is not recommended.

Hard reset:
- Bring both units side by side and remove all batteries
- Place batteries into the outdoor sensor first
- Place batteries into display
- Allow units to sit side by side until they connect.

Followed your instructions to the letter including new Duracell batteries out of the package.   The transmitter batteries are dead after 17 days.

What is the model number of your weather station? Are you able to test the batteries with a battery tester or are you getting a low battery icon on the display at all? What is the name brand of the batteries you are using in the thermometer. Please follow the battery guidelines below:

Hello Jim,

How long are the batteries lasting you? Are you able to test them with a voltage meter? If you are what are they testing at? If you are not testing them with a volt meter how are you gauging that the batteries in the thermometer are dead? How long have you had the product for and where was it purchased?  Follow the battery guidelines below:

Hello Jennifer, I am testing them with a voltage meter.  New, they are 1.5 volts.  After a week they are 0.0 volts.  Product purchased at Lowe's Home Improvements.  I purchased it on Feb 12, 2016.  I only use the battery manufacturers listed and the battery types listed.  I do not mix old and new batteries or manufacturers.  The batteries were manufactured Mar. 2017 and have a 10 yr shelf life.  They are Duracell Alkaline batteries.  I live in NC and 99.5% of the time the temperatures fall well within the alkaline battery range listed in the manual.  Thank you for your response and assistance.  Jim

I Have the same problem than Jim the bstterys wont last 2 weeks I allteady have change the batterues 5 times the WE y got it from Lowes this past December I have fallowing all the instruction have check the batteries to be honest to many problems a very bad product

Contact AcuRite. the sending sensor sometimes does not pace itself as is should and sends a constant signal when it should send a signal periodically. AcuRite replaced my sending unit and it works fine.

Thanks for the reply Bob!  Finally!  An answer that makes perfect sense.  Since it is a known issue it would really help if AcuRite updated their FAQs to reflect this information rather than chase the customer around and around with battery issues that will not solve the problem.  And, if there is a replacement policy for a defective unit work with the customer to make a replacement available.  I was given the option to purchase another sensor.

I did get the run around at first, the idea of batteries being faulty or incorrect, etc. See if you can call and talk to someone at the company or get a direct email address. The faulty sender units must be a reoccurring problem and the explanation  that they constantly send a signal rather than periodically makes perfect sense and the solution of replacing the sending unit worked. The replacement unit has worked flawlessly. It is a shame that the company does not own up to the failing units.

I have the same problem. Batteries die in a couple of weeks. Thought I had a bad set so I switched to new alkaline dura cells. It worked for a couple of weeks then the low temp alarm went off -40 on Maui? Something is askue. Liked the clever guy psak who tookit apart found a circuit card for the anemometer coated in rust cleaned it up with ipa and gave it a moisture coat and no more battery problem. I guess he wreaked the wind direction unit. May be easier to replace the sensor. Get a clue accurite, coat or pot your internal printed circuit cards to protect from moisture. Seem obvious since these mount outdoors in the weather...
