If you remove the batteries does the unit function at all? With different adapters and outlets as you described?

From what you've described it sounds like the display is not taking power from the plug in adapter; an internal problem with the connector (most likely) or the power circuitry inside. The no battery test will confirm that. The dim display and 7 second time out is the fall back when the display is not getting power from the wall.

Hello Jean,

Are you able to see the backlight on and it's just showing dim, or is it not coming on at all? There are high, medium and low brightness settings on the display. If you are using battery power only then the backlight will only come on momentarily for about 7 seconds. When the  display is powered with the power adapter, the display’s brightness can be adjusted using the “LIGHT” switch, located on the back of the display inside the battery compartment. The switch offers four different backlight settings:

High (100%) brightness, Medium (60%) brightness, Low (30%) brightness and Off (0%), or no backlight.  Please try the steps below

To do a factory reset: (THIS WILL CLEAR ALL OF YOUR HISTORY AND YOUR SETTINGS)

Please verify that you are using a name brand (Rayovac or Energizer) standard alkaline batteries in the display unit. We do not recommend using anything that is heavy duty, rechargeable, store brand or Lithium inside of the display.

- Remove all power, AC adapter and batteries, from the display unit.
- Press and hold down the pin hole reset button, located in the battery compartment, for 20 seconds.
- Plug back into AC power and insert recommended batteries.
- Press and hold down the pin hole reset button for an additional 20seconds.
- Verify that the unit has powered on and once connection has been made, attempt to set time and date.
