This is disappointing.  I'm not even counting the upgrade offer, I purchased a smartHUB just a couple  months ago and the warranty on it is for a year  Either replace it or I will send it back for a full refund .

myAcurite only holds data for 31 days, but your wunderground data remains intact.

You just need to set up the new Access with your existing wunderground station ID and key and you'll be back to normal with wunderground.  There's no need to start a new wunderground station ID.

I understand dropping support of a product but even Microsoft lets you use the product until the device dies.  If I choose to do that then I will rethink at that time of buying the replacement bridge or buying some other product.   Why stop allowing your customers from using a device that we purchased before it actually bites the dust?

If you are not supporting it, then you shouldn't shut it down.  You would be hacking my device to break it.  That is a FEDERAL offense.

Hey guys -

I'm writing you because I just learned that my current smarthub is no longer supported (as for Aug 2018).  I had no idea this was going to happen (a co-worker of mine mentioned it to me and then sent me the email).  When you sent the email to me providing an offer to upgrade, I ignored it because my smarthub has been working just fine but I made that decision based on it just being an upgrade and NOT a replacement.  Super disappointed over this.  Now, even though I want to replace mine so I can continue to get support, I have to pay 3xs more?  Why not just be honest with me from the start and tell me that the bridge was being retired?  Had I known I would have taken advantage of the offer.  This really sucks.  I have read and re-read your initial email many times over and NOWHERE does it say the current bridge will no longer report.

Fix this.  You guys seriously messed up.

Hey, I like that comment about the one year warranty and the fact that it will stop working before my one year is up..  That means they have to fix it.  I will be waiting and submit a warranty claim.  If they deny it, then off we go to court for breach of contract.

Who is arranging the lawsuit? i am in the uk only bought this product 6 months ago and paid a premium for international shipping and import. i spent lots of time researching checking this product would work for me in the UK and do exactly what i wanted it to do, i did not expect this! offering a discount on a new product is disgusting as i had no idea this would happen. i expect 12 months manufactures warranty at least. So angry. I am trying to take this up with the merchant as i didn't go direct thru accurate.
I have a far and set this up to monitor and record my weather data, i set it up on a 25ft pole and spent a long time optimising and calibrating this was less than 6 months ago. I hope they get burnt for this, people deserve compensation.

Hey, I keep all my old computers running programs for BOINC just for the fun of it..  They all run old, old internet explorer but Microsoft didn't turn it off like this....   I even have an old Apple II+ that keeps running even though it has been obsolete for what, 30 years...

I concur. Acurite will pull the plug on all fully functioning smarthubs, essentially forcing us to spend a significant amount of money or loose all the online functionality which they promised when they sold the Smarthub. That is called a Breach if Contract.

I am disappointed that the SmartHub is going away. I took advantage of the $90 discount on the Access (and it is working great) but purchased many new sensors now that I had additional capability between the two hubs (Access and old SmartHub).

AcuRite should have been up front from the launch of the Access that the SmartHub service was going away.

We went from support of 10 devices on the SmartHub, to 7 on the Access. I'm losing functionality I *originally* had (the loss of 3 supported sensors) plus I now have close to 8 sensors that in order to keep using I need to spend $129 on *another* Access unit!?!?!?

I work in IT and have worked on IoT platforms. I get they have a legacy cost to maintain. But my goodness, you should have communicated the end of service on the SmartHub immediately with the launch of the Access!!!

You may want to forward this to your legal dept. since I am only an armchair lawyer.    In the state of California, for electronic devices up to $99, the manufacturer is required to provide support for 3 years from the time of discontinuation which I see from Jennifer's post is officially 2/1/2018.    This means you must support it until 1/31/2021.       Looks like Accurite will need to bite the bullet and keep that smart hub server up a little longer or those pesky class action lawyers will be all over it.

Im in the same boat Diego. Bought 6 moths ago in the UK. Shipping and import tax was expensive, no mention it was going to stop working in less than a year.

Jenifer can you please send me this new unit for free and you will also need to pay the international shipping and import tax.

Hello Diego & Chris,

We apologize but the code is valid on AcuRite.com only. To place an order on AcuRite.com you need to have a credit card that was issued in the United States or Canada. The billing and shipping address for the credit card must be in the United States or Canada as well. Do you have a friend or family member that could order this for you, and ship it to you?

Jennifer, As i told you in other conversations, my SmartHub is only 1 month old, so the shipping address is a secondary problem. I can offer to pay shipping and custom duties but you should send it free of charge. My device is under warranty, and bought from an official U.S. reseller (Amazon.com). So please contact me to come to a solution to this situation. Regards.

Jennifer, that is a big middle finger you and acurite have just shown me and Diago!
I wont be doing anything via my friends in the USA appart from askig if they know any good lawyers.

Out of principle i wont pay you anything else to use a product i only just purchased.

1. I beleive you will be in breach of the warenty if you make my device stop working during the warenty period and demand more money for a forced upgrade. Please confirm how would you deal with my warrenty claim.

2. If i give you my money and get the upgrade whats to stop you doing this again, its a very dirty trick acurite has played on us and for the most part it seems to be working as people are paying up.

I can understand discontinuing the product and support, but I do not understand discontinuing he service...other than purely based on a desire for increased profit.

New sensors incompatibility should not be a limiting factor for continued service for people desiring to continue use of existing sensors and capabilities.

If you truly insist on forced obsolescence, than you should be offer a container and free return shipping for proper recycling of the old SmartHUB and not assume that thousands of your products (perfectly good) should just enter our local landfills.

I will agree with this. I paid a lot of money just to get the smart hub. I bought it last year (2017). AcuRite should give everyone a free trade in for the hassel they are putting everyone through. THEY should have notified everyone when the smart hub was registered! I would have returned it ! Now I wonder how many times they are going to upgrade this one & charge you yet again ?

just got an email from AcuRite informing me that they are going to discontinue supporting a product I bought less than 6 months ago. Then they had the NERVE to suggest I send them an additional $35.00 for their new product.
If you bought your unit at COSTCO, I hope everyone will call their local COSTCO to complain about the blatant Rip-off. I will be returning my weather station this weekend and calling COSTCO corporate on Tuesday to request they no longer sell any AcuRite products in our COSTCO stores. There are a lot of good producers out there who would KILL to get their products in COSTCO. There are a lot of sellers and limited shelf space in COSTCO stores. They don't like their members getting ripped-off.

But Jennifer the ones David got didn't get made by Amazon it was made by AcuRite. Your company made it, it's up to your company to stand behind all your products wether that includes third parties selling your products! Otherwise don't let third parties sell your product! Pretty simple really. Your company really doesn't know much, wether it's sales or the legal side of all of this eh? So sad.

This is highly disappointing again.  I'm not even counting the upgrade offer, because that was greatly generous of Acurite to even offer it.

Where my disappointments lay are:

1- Disappointed discovering the Access only supported 7 sensors. I had to reconfigure my smartHub with all 10 that I've had.   Now I have all sensors reporting back to both the Hub and the Access; and both of those reporting to my dashboard.

2- NOW the support for the smartHub is going away?  "Pay more get less" is the game all companies play.

I suppose I can hold out hope that there could be a firmware tweak to allow 10 sensors on an Access, but I won't be holding my breath.

I disagree, the offer was not generous. What is right is they would keep the servers running for the legacy devices and then offer the upgrade discount. The fact its upgrade and pay more money or you have a paperweight is fraud. They sold me a device months ago that they KNEW they were bricking. The ACCESS didn't magically appear, its been in development. They thought they could force people to purchase new items but what they have done is the opposite. I will not even buy a kitchen scale from these people now.

AccuRite is forcing its customers to upgrade their 5-in-1 smart hub weather stations by rolling out a new system that is incompatible with the existing system.  AccuRite failed to notify its existing customers of this planned transition.  And they aren't interested in helping its customers with this transition.  Even if you just recently purchased your equipment, they do not care.  When you call in, AccuRite simply states: "Sorry I can't help you.  You will need to purchase new equipment.  And (by the way), you will also need to pay shipping on your new equipment.  No, we will no longer provide refunds, exchanges, or support for your now 45-day-old equipment that is now considered obsolete."

This is very disappointing! I get that you are going to discontinue making & support the smart hub but now you're telling me the service will end too?!?!? So basically my system will be junk? How can you in good conscience justify this? I have 3 temp sensors I will gain NOTHING from the AcuRite Access. I'm afraid you may have lost a customer over this. email - ***Removed by admin due to privacy purposes***

As far as the 'same as what we paid for the smarthub' argument goes....

I don't think everyone here appreciates the shipping costs associated with ordering from AcuRite if you are not living in the United States. I'm in Canada, and our dollar is garbage, so there's that added cost on everything. I ordered the 5-in-1 with smart hub last March (2017) and can't even remember what it cost (fairly significant). Then, a month later, I received another $100+ bill from 'Fedex Canada' for customs duties (which is also a pile of garbage). So when people here talk about the $90 discount - well, its all relative. Its also a pain in the butt to have to deal with it.

Anyways, regardless, if you buy an entire system that runs upwards of $400 real dollars out of your pocket - you should expect the features to be supported for a few years. That isn't asking too much. I think people have a right to be annoyed. I am.

This is BS. I too ignored the first offer to upgrade because no where did it say my current smarthub would no longer work as it has. Now I have to pay $40 + $33 shipping, + tax + Canadian exchange rate. That is more than I paid for the damn 5 in 1 when I bought it a couple years ago. You were able to send everyone put a new smart hub last y3ar when your software update bricked a bunch, I suggest you make the same gesture now. I seriously have to reconsider sticking with acurite if I am going to be into it for more than $100 just to keep using my old setup.

I understand the need to upgrade equipment, I'm all for that. My SmartHub is not EVEN a year old. So, basically, purchasing the SmartHub was a complete waste of money - down the drain. AcuRite should REPLACE the SmartHub with the Access without any additional charges (maybe just shipping).

If all you bought was a 5 in 1 Wind, Rain, Temp and Humidity Unit with an inside Display from Costco and do not have a smartHUB that intefaces with  AcuRite, you will be fine. The 5 in 1 communicates with the display and will continue to work.

Only if you have purchased a smartHUB (which Costco does not sell to my knowledge) will there be concerns and anger and, rightfully so.

My two smartHUBS are around two to three years old at this point. I along with a lot of other AcuRite customers lived through the firmware fiasco a couple of years back. Still get constant emails alerting me to a sensor being offline that mysteriously comes back online later.  Far from a perfect device.

Personally would not mind upgrading to the Access and it's new features however there are reports on this forum of it having problems. Another mind boggling thing, the Accent supports only 7 sensors while the smartHUB supports 10. Not much of an upgrade.

Worst thing of all is an arbitrary end of life for smartHUBs on September 1, 2018 while they were still selling the units as late as December 2017 according to many who have posted here.

Really bad press for AcuRite because of all this but it is of their own doing. Not sure your Costco protest will do much harm to AcuRite but one never knows.

This is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! Acurite, you are essentially forcing a product which works perfectly fine into obsolescence for the sole purpose of extorting money from your existing customers. It is unbelievable how you actually think that any of your customers would buy any future product from you, even at a perceived “discount.” I can tell you what I will do:
1) Never buy another product from you and tell everyone I know to do the same because of this.
2) File a report with the Better Business Bureau about your disgusting anti-consumer practices.
3) Leave negative reviews on your products everywhere I possibly can, enforcing the fact that you will artificially make those products obsolete for the sole purpose of stealing money from your customers.

Let's try to migrate discussion to Reddit (linked above) for things that will inevitably be censored by Acurite here. They will not have the ability to remove or moderate discussion on Reddit. Their customer support in this thread has clearly been told just to keep pumping up the "Deal" of a $40 ransom upgrade and hope the noise fades.

On reddit we can continue discussing legal recourse, alternative products from other companies, and strategies in filing complaints with state attorney generals, BBB, Amazon, etc.

Quickly bookmark this link now since I expect it to be taken down soon.

First, they stab us in the back and turn our smart hub into a brick and now they give the knife a twist.  Very poor business.  I am sorry but AcuRite ain't getting another drop of my blood.  If and when my smart (ha, hs!) hub dies,  I will just file it in the trash and say goodbye to anything they do in the future.  Thanks, AcuRite for nothing.  Unfortunately the Access system doesn't do any thing that would help me with weather recording.

OUTRAGEOUS!  There is no technical reason to force the smarthub to cease functioning, so this is just business BS...and when my smarthub stops working, all the Accurite garbage is going into the dumpster.  It was reporting phony high temp readings to Wunderground (due to sunlight heating of the housing...) to add to the Global Warming Klimate Kook nonsense anyway.  Garbage design from a dishonest business.  Shame on you.

I'm a fairly recent user of an Acurite 5 in 1 system.  I'm on the fence on whether I like it, but this will push me over the edge to another company.  The only thing I appreciated about the system was the ability to look up the data gathered online.  It's working well now and I don't see any reason they would discontinue the reporting to the web other than forcing us all to spend more on something we don't even want.  Doesn't sound like a company I'd like to support.

I agree with Matt.... this is absolutely and utterly ridiculous...  I mean... if you want to charge me shipping for the new device.... I would be okay with that... but to pay $40 dollars because Acurite no longer wants to support a product is just wrong....

The smartHubs frnkly have been a mess since the beginning.... and now that they 'think' they have it right with the Access... they are going to charge everyone $40 to finally get a product that works consistently?

I suppose they could come out next year with the Access 2!!! and charge everyone another $40....

Acurite you have not thought this one through..... bad move....

I am super underwhelmed with stopping even the service as of Aug 2018. Acurite, you should better rethink that decision because this is a punch into the face of each of your loyal customers. Also, I would not want to make business with a company who treats their customers like that and will NOT take the discount offer but will move elsewhere. Having said that, I will warn all my friends to whom I have promoted Acurite products so far not to buy any of their products ever if Acurite remains with their decision.

I’m smelling lawsuit. This was an advertised package purchased solely for the fact that I could chexk data remotely. Now I have to pay another $30+ dollars to do so?

Who has the class action started? I’m on board.

Units still under warranty should be upgraded for free.  Anything less is borderline fraud.

It's reasonable to charge for upgrades to units older then 1 year and outside the warranty.

https://www.reddit.com/r/myweatherstation

Let's try to migrate discussion to Reddit (linked above) for things that will inevitably be censored by Acurite here. They will not have the ability to remove or moderate discussion on Reddit. Their customer support in this thread has clearly been told just to keep pumping up the "Deal" of a $40 ransom upgrade and hope the noise fades.

On reddit we can continue discussing legal recourse, alternative products from other companies, and strategies in filing complaints with state attorney generals, BBB, Amazon, etc.

Quickly bookmark this link now since I expect it to be taken down soon.

This is crap!  Trying to force customers to buy a new product this way is disgraceful.  Rather than buy the new hub, I will start looking at alternatives in the market.  After all, who's to say Acurite won't discontinue my weather station next?  I regret ever buying an Acurite.

Exactly right Aaron.... they could come out with a new 'SmartHub' every year....
Believe me when I tell you... the next thing I expect is a monthly fee for sending 'enhanced data' to WU.... that is coming.... I will bet my SmartHub on it....

When you think of it... it's like we beta tested the Smart Hub for years and now get to pay $40 dollars for the fruits of our labor per se....

SImply unfair, unethical and down right wrong.

So what's the policy for smartHUBs that are still under warranty?

As for ordering a new one, does your website EVER stay up for more than an hour at a time? I couldn't order a new hub if I wanted to, because your server is apparently hosted in mom's basement and she's doing laundry.

I would assume so. I bought 10 indoor sensors and made the mistake of turning them all on at the same time when I got my SmartHub. The sensors don't have ids so I had a hell of a time trying to figure out which one was which. Even if I were to upgrade, which I will NOT be bullied into doing for what I consider a downgrade, it would be a lot of HASSLE moving all the sensors over. Apparently, Acurite, do not value their customer's time either.

The sensors actually do have ID's, that just aren't obvious. Type into your browser the LAN address of your smart hub, (mine is 192.168.1.4) and an info page with 4 of your sensors, their ID numbers, their signal strength is displayed. I had more than 4 sensors, but only 4 display, so I pulled batteries from each and determined their unique ID numbers. Granted, this is a lot of extra work but I now know those ID numbers and can monitor signal strength with different placements, etc.

and yes, it is disappointing that the legacy devices cannot be supported, maintaining our investment. I must suppose that the communications protocols are different such that both types cannot be maintained simultaneously

Hello Jon,
We do apologize for any inconvenience you had experienced setting up your unit. If you use the 'Replace' function when changing the smartHUB over to the Access the first 7 sensors on the account will transfer over to the Access without having to label or locate which sensor is which.  We are happy to answer any other questions you may have. Thank you.

I understand that hardware reaches the end of its life and support has to be phased out, but what I am most frustrated about is that the new Access only supports 7 devices. I am using 10 with the smartHUB. This was purchased as a bundle directly from the AcuRite website about 18 months ago. Does this mean that I am expected to purchase TWO Access units in order to maintain the same functionality I have now? Can I even have two Access devices attached to the same myAcuRite account? This is a tough pill to swallow.

Jennifer, you need to take these complaints to the powers that be. This is unacceptable. Acurite needs to change their mind on this. Whoever is making these decisions doesn't have a clue as to what they are doing if they thought customers would not complain about this.

this is a rip off we have 4 hubs in four different buildings with inside and outside sensors most were purchased last year to manage temps in our buildings along with our weather station .  We will need 6 of these new rip offs to replace what is working fine now!! and they only give a discount on one with no shipping discount big deal!!!!!  Why weren't we warned these were going to be obsolete and not supported?????? No these will all go in the trash we will not be held up for ransom to purchase all new plus shipping! Time to move on at least we have 6 months to research where to move to.

If you have multiple SmartHUBs, they will give you the discount on all of them.  However, you have to call support, as the discount code they've been distributing can only be used once.

This is really crappy customer service. My unit is only a year old, I've already had to replace the 5in1 sensor and now you are telling me I need to spend another $40 bucks to keep it running past August? Please advise how I can return everything for a refund as I'll just find another system that meets my needs and cares about their customers.

This is very disappointing. The smartHub was working perfectly and doing its job and the new functionality are not enough to justify the change.  My unit is not even 1 year old and now i have to make an additional expense. Besides of that, you don't ship internationally. I bought my unit in Amazon and they ship internationally but i cannot use your discount code in there. Now what are you going to do to solve the problem? do you really think that i am willing to pay $129 for nothing new?

They should have know that cost during the design phase of the hub and built it into their cash flow / profitability assumptions. If they got that wrong that's their problem, not ours. Oh no, wait, they just made it our problem!! Doesn't really matter why, we should not be paying the price.

Mine worked fine until they bricked with the firmware update. . I will look for another vendor like LaCross or others. Actually would like a 5-1 type with solar battery charger. Had one before.

I’ve had the smart hub with 8 sensors for 2 years now. I liked it so much I bought one for my parents, several friends and employees. I heard we needed to order the new hub, which I did and installed it tonight. So I had to spend 47 bucks to get an inferior product. One of my sensors can’t be read because you now are limited to 7. What are you going to do to rectify this.. will there be a future firmware upgrade so I can use my sensors or did you screw me on that too? I and many folks will be slamming you on Facebook because you deserve to be slammed. This will be a first for me but you have earned it.
