Access & smart hub at the same time

I have a smart hub with 10 sensors connected. The new Access unit only works with 7. I have no issues with my hub so my question is why should I get an Access that does less than the hub I already have? I called support and was told I can't have both the smart hub and access work at the same time? I had hoped they would so that I could use more than 10 sensors. Do have correct information here? Just want to make sure it is work buying the Access.

Thanks

There shouldn't be any reason you can't run a SmartHUB and an Access at the same time.

People have been running them that way during testing.

Perhaps they were thinking of using the "replace" feature where the data gathered by your SmartHUB is preserved and moved under your Access.  You don't necessarily have to do that unless you want to.

George.....Have they changed the Internet communication format with the new Access units?  My Pi programs are working great after some initial problems with Rainfall when I first moved to the smartHUB.  I hope I don't have to make major modifications with the new Access units....RDK

Yes.  There have been changes as I tested it.

All communication to myAcurite is bundled up from all sensors and sent every 5 minutes in an encrypted format,

Data to wunderground still happens in rapid-fire fashion, but it is NOT encrypted, so you can still sniff the wunderground stream for now,

Bummer.  I hope I can continue with the smartHUB, that is that they are not going to discontinue them??  At least until I figure out the WU records

I just realized that WU records only reflect my 5-in-1 and not the rest of our sensors.  Thus the Access unit is going to cause me some grief if I lose local access to all of our sensors.

Hello RDK,

Each Connection Device you share with WU is required to have its own Weather Underground Station ID and Station Key. A Connection Device can only be associated to one My AcuRite WU Sharing Profile. If you have multiple sensors, and multiple AcuRite Accesses you can share multiple stations to Weather Underground. You would just need to create another account on My AcuRite.

So the day after I order the new Access thing, after posting here that I want to use it with my smart hub to use up to 17 sensors and was told that WOULD BE POSSIBLE. I get an email telling me my smart hub will not work after August. So I will be down to seven devices when I have ten working devices right now and was planning to add seven more. I would not have bought the access device had I known that my smart hub would be useless. What is the point? when will you do the same thing with the access? I will be sending the access back as soon as it arrives. I do not like the way this is being done. If you want to force everyone with working smart hubs to switch to the the access device, send me one for free. I already paid a ridiculous price for the smart hub and now I am only getting to use it for 2 years.... NOT HAPPY AT ALL.

I agree with your frustration.  I have not even had my SmartHub for a year.  I don't understand why their stopping support is not like Microsoft.  When Windows 7 went out of support, if you owned Windows 7 one could still use it for as long as they wanted to.  They had to deal with no more updates and fixes, but they could use what they paid for as long as they wanted to.

Since their support for me is only a year, what commitment do we get for the new product?  Why do I have to spend money on a new product, when my old one is not even a year old yet, and working fine?  This company does not seem to be very considerate of their new customers.

You also said, "Thank you for the call. Glad to have the problem sorted out and look forward to getting the new access device.", what does that mean?  What did they do to solve your concerns?
