503w backlight won't stay on

I just bought my 00503w yesterday. When I got it home and set up, the backlight stayed dimmed so the time. It was late so I waited to tackle the issue today. I have been working through troubleshooting with no success. When I remove the batteries, the unit goes dead. The batteries are alkaline, as suggested, and are sending standard voltage (checked with our voltage meter). The wall wart is plugged into a working socket (it powers my clock fine) and is plugged into the back of the unit and snug as I can get it. The unit works but only on battery power. I really like the look and functionality of it, and even wouldn't mind it running in batteries as long as I had an easily visible display!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello Kristen,
What brand of battery are you using in the display? When you remove the batteries and run on adapter only, does the display turn off? This product does have a one year warranty that we are happy to assist you with. When and where was this purchased? Thank you.
