Jean it sounds like its time to take the sensor apart and make sure that nothing it stopping the tipping buckets from moving like bugs or dirt.

We took it down and poured water through. Nothing flushed out - water flowed easily. Not sure how to dismantle. Any directions available?

I have found that when I replace the batteries in the rain gauge, the base station will not register it. I have had to pull the base station battery, then insert it to get the readings. One time, I just left it and after about an hour, the base station did finally connect, but registered 88.88 inches of rain. When you remove the battery in the base station, all the rain data is lost. They need a reset feature that allows the base to re-connect to the remote without losing the data - or a non-volatile memory.
