15607 Vintage Black Metal Alarm Clock - Knobs & Finish

Why do time set and alarm set knobs fall off this clock?Afterward, there are tiny delicate threaded stems visible which don't appear to be broken but time set and alarm set knobs won't screw onto stems.

How were the knobs originally installed? How do I get them to stay on?
And what type of finish is "black nickel"?I held the clock with Aspercreme on my hand and didn't think to wipe the clock off, and the Aspercreme damaged the finish.Later, I noticed there were discolored splotches that were somewhat sticky.Isopropyl alcohol 99% didn't help and only made the splotches stickier.Goof Off which removes sticky glue ruined the finish.
Very disappointed in AcuRite.Expected a manufacturer of precision measuring equipment to do a better manufacturing job than this.I was elated to find the clock, as I don't know of another wind up alarm clock still being made, at least one that's not ugly and plastic like the old Westclox ones. But at this point I guess I'd rather have an ugly plastic alarm clock that works than a nicely designed metal one where the knobs fall off and the finish spoils.

Hello Darrell,

Thank you for taking time to write the review and share your experience.  The knobs to wind this clock are supposed to come off. The knobs of the clock do not follow the normal "Lefty loosy righty tighty" The knobs will come lose turning to the right so you can wind the clock to the left.  We have emailed you at the email address on file. Please check your inbox. Thank you.
