01535 - No USB Mode

Just got a Model 01535 from Sams Club - before I purchased, I called and very specifically asked if this model supported USB communications (I want to use WeeWx).  Was told "yes".  As far as I can tell, it's got no way to set the USB mode, and my PC will not recognize it.

Does this model support PC communications or not?  If so, how do I set the USB Mode?

Hello Clay J,

That is correct the newer models do not have a USB mode. The 01535 is not a PC Connect compatible display.  I have attached a link for the 5n1 displays. Any that say PC Connect  are the displays that are PC Connect compatible. https://www.acurite.com/accessories-parts/displays-for-5-in-1-weather-sensors.html

Hello Stephen,
What happens when you follow these steps? Are you not able to locate “SET USB MODE?”  Thank you.

When I cursor to the "SET USB MODE", I press the gear/wrench settings button.  I then cursor up/down to select the mode # I want - usually I want mode #3.   When I I reach mode 3, I press the settings wrench. The device will immediately cursor up or down to the next mode setting number.  I simply does not allow me to select a USB mode.

I have tried setting the USB mode with the unit connected to my computer and it does the same thing.  However, I was able to export some data to a spread sheet using the AcuRite PC Connect software.  I do not know how that happened because it would not connect dozens of times when I tried to connect the device.  Then one day it worked....  baffling...

Hello Stephen,
Do you have any other issues with the buttons when setting the display? It sounds like it is pressing another button when you set USB. If I am understanding correctly, the transfer only worked one time correct? You are not currently transferring data? Thank you.

So far, the Set USB Mode is the only issue.  I'm only using one finger to press the settings button, and I believe all my finger tips are normal size and I am quite sure I'm only pushing one button at a time such as setting time and date which worked just fine.

Yes, it only worked one time, and since then, I have not tried transferring any data. I will make an attempt to transfer data in a few days.

As I mentioned in an earlier note, I had the same issue with this model which I returned due to a malfunctioning "v" button, the down arrow button.  My new unit is working OK with the exception of the SET USB mode.

Hello Stephen,

This is a very touch sensitive device. If you are not getting the SET USB to come up you may need to press a little to the left or right of the arrow to get it to scroll through the different settings.  Please let us know if this corrects the issue you are experiencing.

OK - that's REALLY disappointing and quite annoying, since I very specifically called and asked BEFORE I made the purchase.

Also, if it's not USB compatible, then why is there a USB jack on the bottom of the unit?

I'm half-tempted to file a "deceptive marketing" complaint, since it looks like I'm not the only one who has this issue.

Hello ClayJ,

We apologize if you were told that. Did you speak with a representative here at AcuRite? The USB jack on the bottom of the display is what we used to load the firmware on the display.  If the displays are Pc Connect compatible it will list it on the packaging. Please let us know if there is anything further we can assist you with.

Yes - I did speak to someone there at Accurite.   I actually now have a bigger problem.   This morning at 0640 the 5in1 stopped sending data .  If I reset the console, it will show up for a minute with 5 bars, and then just go away.  The console is about 50' from the sensor, and I have checked the batteries, which are brand new Lithium, took them out and put them back in; and no success.   I also have a radio connected to a Raspberry Pi and it's seeing the same issues (with that, I see the Lightning detector and several other sensors, but not the 5n1 - I will actually replace the batteries later today and will probably call in if that doesn't work; but, perhaps you can "get the ball rolling" on a replacement?

Update - I got some time this morning and so I called and spoke with someone who told me about the EverReady Lithium battery issue.   I followed the hard reset instructions, and it seems I'm back up.  I have that case to call back on if I need to , so we can close out this discussion
