00899 Rain Gauge not working

Last fall I had a converstion here about my model 00899 Rain Gauge. I had to bring it inside due to the winter weather. I am now trying to start it working, but it isn't. The receiver's bar graph shuts down as if there is no signal from the transmitter. Both units have new batteries. Is there anything I can do ito make it work?

More from Bob: Inside each unit there is a switch labeled abc. It is disturbing that the manual does not mention these. I guess maybe they need to be set at the same letter?

Hi Bob,

The following steps should help to resolve any issues you have been experiencing with your rain gauge.

Before proceeding with the reset, please check your batteries. We recommend that the batteries meet the following criteria:

• Verify you are using standard alkaline batteries such as Rayovac or Energizer.
• Verify that you are using a fresh set of batteries. The battery expiration date should be at least 6 years out. Batteries can lose 3% of their power or more every year in storage.

1. Bring both the collector and the display unit indoors and position them side by side.

2. Remove all batteries from both the collector and the display unit.

3. Locate the A-B-C ID switch inside each battery compartment. Make sure that the two parts are set to the same position. Please change both parts to the next available letter on the ID switch, as this can help to reset the unit. (Inside the battery compartment, you will see a small, white sticker with a 4-digit number. Please let us know this number.)

4. Reinstall batteries in outdoor collector first.

5. Reinstall batteries to the display last.

6. Let both collector and display sit side by side to establish connection. (This would be indicated by a rain reading of 0.00" shown on the display.)

7. After a connection has been established, the collector can be placed outdoors.

Should you require further assistance please contact our phone support at the number listed below.

Harold: Thanx for showing me page 5 of the manual. It clearly explains what the abc switches are for. The manual I have says model 00899 on the cover, and makes no mention of them.

Crystal: I tried the sequence you mentioned. When I carefully followed, it started working. Don't know what I had been doing wrong.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply

I too was having the same the problem. This post help get me up and running. My manual also makes no reference to the A-B-C switches.  Thanks a bunch.
