When I plug the probe into my digital meat thermometer it will only register HI, why?
-
When the probe is not plugged in to the meat thermometer that section will read LO, but before placing the probe in to the meat the probe than will register room temperature. If it only registers HI after the probe is plugged in than you have a bad probe.

I have bought two of these now and both of my thermometer did the same thing during the first time of use. These things are worthless!
-
-
What a ripoff! Used this maybe a dozen times over 6 months and then it quit and only reads "Hi". The plastic coated wire is the problem - can't expect it to last in a hot oven or grill.
-
-
I'm having this same "Hi" issue. how do I go about getting a replacement probe?
-
-
It wont matter replacing the prob, cuz I tried that. Best thing for you to do is go get made by a different company. Acurite doesnt seem to care if they are ripping people off.

I don't work for acurite, I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. My Thermometer prob lasted for about a year and it quit working. I need a new one now.
They don't know you bought 2 that didn't work if you don't tell them. Instead of complaining, why don't you talk to support and ask for your money back, or ask for a working replacement at no cost? It's not about getting free stuff, it's about getting what you paid for. They probably make millions of these, do you think 100% of them are going to be defect free? Again, you spent $20 on a thermometer, it's not going to be perfect. If you want something perfect, go buy a $200 thermometer. THEN you can complain when it doesn't work. Until then, save your money and ask them to make it right. -

Mass production has it's problems. Quality control usually samples a unit from each production lot. If the sample operates correctly the lot is accepted. Even your restaurant food is flawed sometime.
Casey, your name calling and ranting will not help you solve your problem. You can't bully someone to help you. -

It appears the probe is inferior and will not last. The company needs to recall the units and redesign the probe. This is a bad product to put on the market and retailers should be made aware. Academy replace mine but I think the replacement will be short lived.

What about recalls? Redesign? Your answer does not indicate that anything will be done to resolve the problem.

-
We currently researching ways to make the probes more robust and hope that this results in a new design. At this time we do not have a recall in place on these units.

The probe on my Acu-rite thermometer stopped working after the second use. I don't care if it's not a $200 thermometer, it's still a $20 piece of junk.

Hi Marc,
This certainly is not the expected lifetime of the probe. If the probe is not taking accurate temperature readings please contact our customer support center directly to discuss a replacement, 1-877-221-1252 or info@chaney-inst.com -

The wireless remote displays "out of range" when it is 20 feet from the main unit. I thought the range was lot more. At 20 feet it is useless. I have new batteries in both units and the units are brand new.
-
Hi James,
The "out of range" reading will be displayed any time the units are not synchronized. Try the following steps to attempt to reconnect them.
1. Bring the units together, side by side.
2. Remove the batteries from both for 15 minutes.
3. Place the batteries into the main unit first.
4. Turn the main unit ON.
5. Place the batteries back into the pager last.
6. Turn the pager ON.
7. Let both units sit side by side for about 10 minutes to reconnect. -

Can you replace the battery in the meat thermometer 00641W? If so how?
-
Good Afternoon Barbara,
Please visit the following link for details on changing the battery in your thermometer. The thermometer listed is a different number than your own however the instructions are the same.
