PC Connect: v2.5 Beta Software Available for Download [OLD TOPIC]

AcuRite has partnered with Weather-Display.com to develop the newest release of PC Connect Beta 2.5. This software effects models 1025, 1035 & 1525. If you own one of these models and wish to test the beta software, you may download it here:

PC Connect Beta 2.5 will provide all of the same functionality as the last version (1.0), including:

1) Download CSV file of your sensor data to your PC
2) Stream data to Acu-Link.com for use with AcuRite's My Backyard Weather software
3) Access data on your mobile device with the Acu-Link app, available in the iPhone app store and Android marketplace

In addition, PC Connect Beta 2.5 provides the following NEW features:

4) View your weather sensor data on your PC screen

    When I open the CSV it has the headers and only 1 record.

    Good fix of rearranging the order of records - the freshest record on the bottom.
    And finally - this seems to be working as oppose to the still official version of download software.

  • The weather-display software is a seperate piece of software by a third party. I will note the issues you are having with the .csv, this is why we do Beta- thanks for taking the time to leave the feedback!

    I installed the new beta, but all readings are blank other then signal strength and battery on pc application. Test says it can send data but nothing showing on My weather yet.

    Last beta worked for me but still lost connection over time.

    First, definately try re-starting the software.

    Make sure your display console is in the correct mode- the included pdf in the install folder will outline the different modes if you are not familiar with them.

    if modes are all good and cable is connected ok and all- there is more you can check if you wish to. If you notice, there is also a acurite data reader program running- if you click on the icon it should bring up the application and it will tell you some of the "behind the scenes" details- such as usb connection status and time until next data expected, etc.

    I've tried all the above plus restarting PC, pulling batteries, reinstalling, different usb connections, administrative rights etc. I get "-- --" for all readings. Like I said I had everything working with the previous beta, other then loosing the connection over time.

    When I bring up the reader app it says on the right hand side "RAW3 DATA NOT BEING DOWNLOADED PC CONNECT EXISTS" All data is black in that app too.

      I have logged your issue, we will see what we can find out. Seems like the last thing you can try is replacing the USB cable?

      That message is normal in the data reader. It simply states you are not currently downloading the console memory at this time and that your physical uplink to acu-link.com is active.

  • Even though the new utility indicated it was updating to Acurite servers my bridge readings on MBW were not being updated. Finally had to clear my 1035 console, hit the Register button in the utility to erase my old bridge, reboot my PC and re-create my bridge on MBW. Things seem to be updating ok now.

  • 1035 console is set to mode 3. Tried a data download which worked successfully, downloading 3 records. Immediately tried a second download and software showed downloading 0 records, green progress bar went halfway across and is remaining there. A data file has been created but windows indicates the file is locked so I assume the Acu-Link utility still has it open. Data Reader utility indicates "Raw3 data not being downloaded" "Data dump completed".
    Updates are continuing to MBW.

    After waiting about 30mins with no download progress I clicked on the download button again; the file save window opened; I entered a file name and the file save continued downloading 2 records, starting with the progress bar at the halfway point The new file created is not locked however, the previous one mentioned above is still locked.

  • After you download a csv file- that is wiping the display console memory, so an immidiate secondary download would find no records in the display console for at least 12 minutes. It should not lock up though, it should just say "0 records found" and create an empty .csv file- so that is an issue I have logged.

    The "Raw3" message is simply stating that you are not currently downloading data, so most of the time that is what the message will be.

      Just noticed these two messages in the data panel of Data Reader; not sure exactly when they appeared however.

      Value of '255' is not valid for 'Value'. 'Value' should be between 'minimum' and 'maximum'.

    • Those messages refer to un-needed/possibly contaminated data that was filtered out- does not really effect anything, just procedural for our developer diagnostic purposes.

  • Just thinking ... what if the setup app had installed a csv file in the created ACURITE folder ... would that make dowloading data quicker, or is the issue compiling enough data first from initial install? I had 2 weeks of data stored, so downloading should have gone quickly

    Thank you for the update
    The data panel displays the info but the download of the csv file still doeas not work (as in all previous versions) about 1/10 of the green bar appears and then it just hangs. Also the data panel stops updating.
    Tried a different USB port, same result. Restarted software, no change.
    Running Windows 7/64
    Any ideas?

      1. Does the download window have a notification at the bottom "Please wait..."?

      2. Make sure your display console is in mode 1 or 3 for data download.

      3. Try restarting your PC and see if the data download works then (may have to wait at least 12 minutes as there may not be any records stored yet in the display console)

      I had pretty much the same problem as you initially and my 1035 console would have had a full buffer. I had to press the console "clear" button then reboot to get a download. Also have problems outlined in my posting above if I try to download an empty csv file.

    Still have same problem as all previous versions. Trying to download CSV file using mode1 and system still hangs cpu at 100% but no file generated need to alt/ctr/del
    to kill application after 5 minutes of waiting.

    Using Microsoft XP

    I don't own WinZip and I have now used up my trial period, in the future can you post self extracting files.

  • Note that you have to restart the software if you change USB modes on the display console, I left that out of the readme pdf file. The software actually works best when you choose a mode on the console, then start the software.

    Hi Ryan,
    I was just taking a look at the pdf file which accompanied the 2.5 beta and I'm confused when you say "This will be closest to your actual barometric pressure" in the paragraph below.


    Do you mean once you've added a calibration offset which brings the reading into line with another accurate nearby source?

    This whole pressure thing, 14 day learning etc has me confused. I think a more detailed explanation of how the barometric pressure reading system is setup, starting with how the unit is setup at the factory (what the pressure transducer is referenced to) and how the "learning" algorithm works using the world average sea level pressure would possibly help!

    • Funny you say that- this option (along with other expanded options) are in development stages right now for the website and for the mobile app.
    • If your looking for web site recomendations, ... with auto align display tables, your better off with a solid color for a background image (tile) and doll up the table box backgrounds

    Still won't download data, tried everything suggested above. Switched to my PC running Vista and still no luck. left it running for several hours and the green line won't move past about 10% of the way.
    • You are getting the live data- correct? Have you ever been able to download a .CSV file?

      Did you try a different USB cable?

      If you have done everything else and switching thew USB cable does not work, give our customer support a call and maybe we can figure this out for you, tell them Ryan sent you from the forum and they will probably paige me:-)

  • i think if i were you, i'd disconnect USB, uninstall the application, deleate the chaney folder in program files, reboot then install again, follwing the instructions in the PDF file, but this time when you are at the end of the install, remove the checkmark beside start Acurite pclink, click finnish ... start the application manually, from your start list, sometimes windows doesn't create start short cuts, it'll, just auto run from the install file ... now theres a good chance your console hasn't been storting data, while its trying to create the file from the last download attempt, (windows will continue to attempt to complete the task, even though you've forced a stop) so leave the USB connected and just start the application, wait about an hour , this will give you about 4-5 readings, then try the download,

    Well after reading everyone's comments I thought I would try again so here is what I did.....
    Shut down software.
    Uninstalled new and old software. Deleted their install folders.
    Unplugged USB (not sure this matters).
    Rebooted.
    Reinstalled new beta version.
    and did a download and got 186 records!!! YeHa it worked.

    I got the new beta software running. I can see the real time data on the PC, but cannot download data to the PC. Mode 1 doesn't work at all. I can only get real time data in Mode 3.

    • The statement raw data not being downloaded is becaue there isn't any to get, it hangs, because it needs to compile at least 3 readings before it can create the file, so wait an hour before you click the download button, you will need to give the file a name including the file extension ... i had to save to a different folder, then after a failed atempt, i saved to the default folder then i got data ... when you do a fresh install, the process deletes the excesting file ... check your event viewer and see what that tells you ... dumb question ... did you follow the install PDF
    • It is possible you may have a bad or corrupted memory module in your display console- Get in touch with our customer service dept over the phone- we will get you a replacement display console asap- and I want to get your unit back for testing.

      The data download function can be a bit tempormental in this beta release, but usually only requires a reboot of the software to get back to normal operation. There has not been a test unit yet where the .csv download does not work at all, that is why I suspect you may have faulty component. It's rare for these memory modules to go bad, but it does happen.

  • Just a quick note to all Beta Testers: We have been logging the issues that have been reported, and I will be testing an updated version of the software over the weekend, look for the new download sometime next week.

    A Week ago I replaced my HTPC with new box and added the PC connect 2.0 Beta. It took me for ever to first "wake up" USB. and then to register the HEX ID. Still not sure why after many many attempts it finally did login to MBW, I am absolutely positive I did same steps in previous dozens attempts to connect.

    few days after there was a new email for Beta2.5
    I must say this was a smoothest install.
    I stopped the application, removed from "Add/remove Application" deleted the folder from Program Files (x86). Installed the new beta checked the connect and all was instantly working, widget on PC, Internet to MWB and Android app.

    All this with Mode 4. I will keep this running for a while as I am more interested (for now) if the odd values for temperature (165F) will be popping up.
    will keep you posted.

    as side note, I would prefer the bridge to router link as opposed to run HTPC 24/7 for PC Connect only.

    One question to developers:
    are U considering to have PC Connect as service only instead of interactive app with widget on PC?

    I can't get it to work at all. After installation, as soon as the reader comes up I get a bunch of "unexplained Exception errors" (log list below).
    I uninstalled my old version-deleted old folder- rebooted- installed the new version
    Have pluged/unplugged diplay unit, reset display. uninstallled new software, deleted folder, installed again and same errors. Reader and other dialog show all ----

    • I know that the "safehandle cannot be null.." error refers to the usb not recieving data,either due to the cable being disconnected, or the display console is set to mode 2 or 4, either modes do not log or transmit saved data from usb console internal memory. I know this is all basic stuff- but I habe to at least mention it.

      I will review this issue with the developers and see what we can find out.

  • those errors ussually indicate a communication error, like you started the application without the USB being connected ... check your USB cable connection at the unit, doesn't take much to become dislodged ... looking at some of the error messages, you might want to hit windows update, you may have an issue with netframeworks4.0

    what do you mean "when the reader comes up" ... the 5-1 realtime data box ... does any data show?

    I am running Vista Home with SP2. I have downloaded the V2.5 and everything seems to work, MBW, Phone App, Weather Underground and the Trial version of WDisplay.

    I have only noticed two concerns. I can not download data from my 01025 to a .CSV file. Before the WD partnership and before I down loaded the 2.5 Beta, I was always able to download my console data, as I was also able to have everything working then as well MBW, Wunderground, and Phone App.

    Then after I down loaded the Trial WDisplay software if I tried to download my data from the 01025 console I never ever found any records. Has anyone else whom is also running the trial version of WDisplay noticed that if they try to download any data from your 01025 console that it always has 0 records. Does WDisplay software somehow continuously clear or download records so that when ever you attempt to download your 01025 console data you will never see any records because once you download it clears memory in the console?

    The only other concern I have seen so far is the Acu-link PC Connect under the "Options" tab is the "Barometer offset adjust" that did not seem to do anything. I wanted to bump this value up to match the Barometric reading that I have in my home, the difference between this raw sensor reading and what I wanted to change it to was in the order of 0.300 inches. When I input that offset value of 0.300 I never saw anything change. I had to input a value of 21.95 inches in that input field before I was able to see the value change to what I was looking to see. I was just expecting to input a value of the offset I was looking to see of 0.300 inches. Not sure why I had to input a such a Large offset value of 21.95 inches to see the small change I was looking for. Ryan or other Beta Test Team members let me know if any one else has noticed either one of both of these issues.

    • Hi Mark,

      I think the WDisplay software pulls the current CSV record in order to display the inside temperature and humidity. You might be able to disable it if you click on Control Panel > Datalogger and turn off the button.

    Well I am worse off now than before. Won't download .csv file, just hangs... Won't upload, just does nothing, software display shows "ERROR: Unable to write to C:\Program Files\acurite\acurite.ini" on bottom status bar. Also, no display of data shows.

    Nothing works on my system. Running Windows 7, all the latest updates installed...

    • Okay, will do. Settings are good, lots of data on the console as it hasn't downloaded in over a week. This not a new install and it has worked with other versions but would drop out or hang and give bad output on line.
    • Once you click "download" it clears the data memory on your console ... you may also need to add the .csv extension when naming your download file

    I too have bridge and download issues.

    And now my Dashboard is not updateing, yesterday it hung a one set of readings despite showing updated times. Today it has new data but still not correct, though the time displayed is current.

    Doesent this mean the server is part of the problem?

    Also like many others my USB download hangs, my last attempt all I got was a partial column heading line.

    Will we see the next Beta within 10 days, I'm working in Africa and though I dont relish the thought would like to know if I my have to bring the unit back with me in two weeks.

    If I have to bring my 1035 back to Canada on my return in two weeks is there a way to remove the anemometer rotor.

    The 5 in 1 is fairly compact to fit into my luggage but the anemometer is both fragile and sticks out precariously.

    The overall packaging could sure be simplified if it was removable.

    Might save the company a wack of bucks in the cubed rate on you frieght charges>

    I am now back to where I was before the Beta release.

    I have tried to refresh my Dashboard and have been unable to get current data, at first I would get an up-to-date time with non-current data, but once my dashboard was completely frozen, I set to work cancelling my bridge registration.

    Now having tried to cancel then re-establish my bridge registration, I get the MAC address incorrect or unavailable msg and am unable to move on. This was pretty much the situation before the Beta release.

    Before I started to clear everything and start again I noticed a couple of things, I hope they help figure this out:
    • That the Aculink PC Connect has current data but when the dashboard is turned on or refreshed the data does not update.
    • Also that on the left side of the dashboard all under “My Sources” all the sensors indicate “No Signal”. Screen Capture Attached
    • Finally should I be concerned that when I look for the device on my computer the Weather Station base unit does not show up as being plugged in, as a USB stick or SD card would be. I have asked this question a number of times and have not received an answer directly addressing it.

    Thanks to the gang toiling away on this, I still think the Server that sends the data back to all the Dashboards must figure in to this somehow.

    Is there a short list of other MAC addresses that I can log onto to compare, I remember on my initial setup there was mention that there were demo MAC addresses that should show up on the dashboard. I've never seen them.

    • Hello Ian,

      When you cancel your account and "Start over" on www.acu-link.com, you need to go into the "upload" section of the PC Connect utility on your PC and press the "REGISTER" button, Then go on to www.acu-link.com and create a new account and register your MAC address, etc.

      The server still is listening for that registered MAC address and it's data stream.

      The "REGISTER" button in the software wipes your MAC address and it's associated data from the servers- essentially telling the server to clear that MAC address and allow it to be registered as a new MAC. That is why you only hit it once during registration of a new bridge, or in your case if you are trying to start over for whatever reason.
    • side note, after deleting your MBW account, clear your temp internet files and cookies, close IE then re-open, goto website and register a new account... by doing this, stops the web site from recognizing your IP address and you can make a new account without any old info being used.

  • you have no communication to your computer, from your console or you missed a step on the install (check the install PDF file)... that would explain the no readings on MBW ... some of the folks who had this before didn't remove the Channey folder in Program files after they uninstalled PCconnect from the add remove programs list and there was a few which deleted the folder before uninstalling (not recommended) ... a reboot is required before the install of the latest BETA version, just as the rest, some folks uninstall the old, then, immediately install the new, then reboot, this often results in non connect to web site, because of the failed communications between your device and your version of windows ...
    • Yes- good points George. Make sure you uninstall the program through windows, THEN delete the Chaney folder/ Acurite folder. THis is good practice whenever un-installing.

      Also, I second George's comment about the PDF. Make sure you consult the PDF readme, it has enough info in it to hopefully get most issues solved.

  • well heres one for ya ... my usb cord gave up the ghost .. i wasn't getting any raw1 data, started messin with the usb cord and got the ding ding for usb connect/disconnect, swap out the cord, with the one for my SkyCaddie and downloaded new csv, 40 seconds

  • That would work, but if the PC was off or was interrupted, you would lose the count, some users are only using the data logging and occasionally turning on thheir PC for .csv download to clear memory.

    I am aware of dropping the link to MBW and re-init, but I believe simple reset should be incorporated.

    Hi Ryan, thanks for the info. I should have pointed out that the value of 114 is not visible on the graph same as last months 165 wasn't shown on the graph at beginning but later on it was shown as peak ^ over tile line around 30 min. Hope you have access to the data on the server to review.

MBW reports BAR, but get "no signal" for all the rest of the sensors (4:29 - 9:40)... after some checking, all is ok here, I closed the sensors, signed out, cleared my temp internet flies and cookies, closed IE re-opened IE signed back in to MBW, added my sensors back in, tweaked settings (metric) and with sharing for wunderground and viola all is reporting again ... now why would that be ... is there a log file limit?

    The download screen just stops with progress bar slightly above 0.
    Lost data for a number of days.
    As much as I like this unit (1035 from Costco) I will be most likely returning it as I am not willing to spend any more time troubleshooting the connectivity which is not stable. This could be a great unit but only for people that do have time/willingness to work around the "quirks" that manufacturer should address before the unit headed for market.

    Downloaded the Beta program to see if it would resolve conductivity issues between the 5in1 sensor and the console and also issues the USB connection dropping out as I was seeing in my Weather Display logs.
    I see that you have added the use of the Acu-rite reader program ( acurite.exe from Micheal Walsh) I found that the download is using version 3.0. This version was found to have some issues which have been resolved and as of last night the current version is 3.2.

    Acu-Rite does not have a Beta 3.2

    As I stated I was looking to resolve some conductivity issues when I spoke to tech support yesterday with Acu-rite. I found when I downloaded the Install-Acu-link-PC-connect.zip file I was running two different versions of the acurite.exe (the reader). Being I run my 1025 with Weather display I found in there forum a problem was discovered with caused comumincation via the USB to be lost. I wrote this for the programers to know a bug was found if they were not aware and maybe it could cause problems like other I have read with this beta test. Weather Display,in their lastest release v 10.37R Build 20 supplies acurite.exe version 3.2

    As noted above as a "OPTION You can try Weather-display.com software for free for 30 days. Should you choose to buy the software, it's available for $70 and offers a variety of advanced features. Visit weather-display.com for details." For me I was willing to spend the $70 to get the Acu-Rite system working and sending reliable data to outside sources.

    I only put this on here for the programers to understand that this beta test my find issues outside of their program that may cause problems.

    • Not good. But I am not even sure that it is initiating the download as it seems to freeze instantly. Then again, if you hit download and deletes everything, then it likely would hang as there is nothing there and it is expecting something. I should have stayed with the original version I had working. At least it would work for a few days even if the data on line was wrong.

      Sad how we have to troubleshoot the product AFTER buying it. Certainly not something to recommend. Seems one issue gets fixed and a new one comes up. Getting very frustrated after all the hype about a fix coming back in January
    • Make sure the display console is on USB mode 3- mode 3 works best and covers the streaming AND the data logging download to your PC.

      Make sure your download file includes the .csv extension.

      Make sure you are running the software as administrator.

      Also, note that the pressure will definately be different from the display console to the software- the display console shows the AcuRite learning mode pressure that is specifically used for the forecasting feature- mainly displayed to show the Pressure change. The software shows the raw, or absolute pressure directly from the pressure module.

      Lastly, please check out the "troubleshooting" section of the read me PDF included with the official 2.5 beta download. It is similar to other software troubleshooting guides, but it may help you determine the cause of the issues you are having on your PC.

  • We will be releasing the next version (3.X) soon, but only after we fully test it with our hardware at our facility. The developers at weather display have packaged the latest BETA PC connect software to allow their Weather Display software to function with our hardware.

    Ryan please consider bringing back the background service. When it worked, the windows service was a much more elegant way of dealing with communication with the unit and the website than a cludgy separate application. Building a front app to view and adjust the raw data and dealing with data dumps is fine, but I really don't want to have to worry about the server rebooting due to updates, panics, or power issues only to realize a day later that has also resulted in a days worth of no data for MBY or Weather Underground. That has happened twice since installing 2.5

  • The new AcuRite Data Reader is more robust than the version included with 2.5.

    I will have the new BETA version available soon- hopefully this evening it will be available for download. Should be able to test everything out in mode 3 only- mode 1 is still being developed. Stay tuned Beta Users!
