The Acu-Link My Backyard Weather version 1.4.0 release is scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th from 4:00am – 6:00am EST. During this time frame, the My Backyard Weather software will update automatically. This is a server-side update only - no action is required. This update will effect the online software at http://www.acu-link.com and the Acu-Link app for Android and iPhone.
My Backyard Weather enhancements available with the latest release include the ability to create dashboard widgets for heat index, wind chill, dew point, rainfall rate, and ‘feels like’ temperature. You will also be able to create alerts based on these new widgets.
This release also includes the addition of several more Canadian cell phone carriers for Alert capabilities.
Again, no action is required for Acu-Link users. My Backyard Weather software will automatically receive this update.
Thank you,
~The AcuRite Team~

Mac compatibility?? This should be a priority people. Macs work better. You wouldn't be running into all these issues.

Hello, Did you all get the updates done this morning?
Should we see the new features or ability to add the new features on the desktop PC version of My Backyard Weather Dashboard? If so I do not see them yet as of about 7:15 AM ET this morning. I also did not see the new features or option to add them on my wifes Android phone this morning at about 8:15 AM ET.

So what's the point of updating the MBY Weather display if the USB problem of "not responding" for PC's is still a major problem? I can't download or upload the data anyway because the USB driver still isn't recognized by Vista? Shouldn't the USB driver problem be the priortiy to put out first?

P.S. The USB device when connected shows up as "unrecognized device". Driver updates doesn't change this. Uninstall, reinstall doesn't help. Stop & restart service doesn't help. Nothing in Device Manager fixes it, etc.. If I reset the unit, remove batteries & start from scratch as if new, then there is no point in logging data if that has to be done to connect each time, as a reset will remove all the logged data, which kind of misses the point of a weather station that logs data. I don't really give a Rat's Ass about MyBYW, as it's a very poor clunky kind of useless interface anyway, but if the unit can't download or upload the data due to a broken USB driver, then there certainly is no point to attempting to use any version of MyBYW. So what's the point in updating MyBYW if only a few lucky souls can make use of it?
-
-
That sounds like a bad USB chip in your hardware. You should contact technical support about getting a replacement display.
As to the original question. The development team that works on the server side applications is different than the team that works on the USB PC side utility. So they are continuing to work on the features and other issues while we battle the USB PC application issue. -

Is it possible to share the rainfall rate with wunderground.com?
It would be nice to share the wind gust data with them too. -
-
Come on Acurite, be a little proactive and post the status of this update. Also, give us more info than what was in the email notice. Like, how can these new dashboard widgets work on a smartphone without an update to the app?
-
-
A quick update. Those of you who have signed up to beta test the USB application will be getting a new version later today for testing. If all goes well with this new version, we should be able to load it onto the website for general downloading this weekend or early next week.

My Backyard Weather not working either. All is get is weather info from Jan. 15. My unit is also telling me my data memory is full and I should download it to my PC... except I tried several times but can't do it.
-
What happens when you set the weather station and the software to mode 3 and click the download button?

Hi,
Have you downloaded and installed the PC software, yet? You need it to do any downloads to your PC and then onto My Backyard Weather. However, a new version of the software is to be posted soon. You may want to wait a few days.

Nice update. Love the ability to see wind chill and feels like. For those who don't see the update just click on weather select. That will add a new widget to your screen. Then just select from the drop down list and add what you want. The barometer is still slightly off. I don't see any difference in the IPhone app though.
-
-
I think I installed everything correctly because I had My Backyard Weather working ok sending info to my Iphone on the 15th Jan. I'll probably wait for the new download in a few days.

To the original question, what mode is the weather station set to when you click the button and get no response? The mode needs to be set to 1 or 3 for downloading.
-
-
I'm using Windows 7. The weather station is set to Mode 3. I tried again this morning I still received the message "not responding" and regarding My BackYard Weather, it wasn't receiving any signal for Temperature and Wind speed.

I have been running the beta software since Jan 13 without fault in minus 40 deg C weather we are having.. Win XP, Mode 3 on an old emachines 6532 boat anchor. MBW latest update works great as well.
I am trying to get up enough nerve to reboot my computer and see what happens.
Before the beta I could do nothing. Download to my PC or connect to MBW/Weatherunderground.
To get the beta software to work I had to remove the old software including manually removing the Chaney Instruments Inc directory and its contents that remained after letting windows do its removal. Until I did this it would not work. I also had to replace Microsoft .net Framework 4, let windows update do its thing including some updates that I had switched off in the past and that I had forgotten about.
I also needed to fix a bunch of self induced issues that I created when I was trying to make the original software work.
So far I am happy with the progress made to date. -
-
Just a quick note, our developer hasn't sent over the new beta version yet and just sent me a note saying he'd have it to me in the morning. I'll send it out as soon as i have it.
-
-
I am not able to maintain dedicated link to allow for mode 3 or 4 so I need a version that will allow be to download in mode1.
The download on your site still is version 1.0.0 and won't work more than once.
Will the beta version work, and if so how can I get it. I have sent a couple of emails but the only reply said it will come automatically, but I think that is only if I am using Mode 3 or 4.-
We're expecting a new version of the beta today so I was holding off on sending out until that arrived. You are on the list to receive.

Installed 1.2.0 which I received this afternoon. Isn't the revision wrong? should it not be higher than 1.4.0? Anyway, installation went fine. Baramometer reading is still off a bit though.
-
Hi Reg,
1.2.0 is the version number of the latest PC Connect software which was just released. The Version 1.4.0 Jeff is referring to in this thread is the My Backyard Weather server software. -

Just to provide a little more detail to what regbarrett first shared above, in order to view the new My Backyard Weather update widgets you must first click on the "Weather Select" tab on the bottom of the "Manage Sensors" column. This column is located on the left side of the My Backyard Weather internet page. After you click on this tab it will display a new widget. Next you select what you want that widget to display via the drop down menu (on that widget). You repeat these steps for each new widget you want displayed.
Regretfully, and as previously stated, the iPhone app doesn't appear to have changed.- view 2 more comments

Understood. The affect to the mobile apps was the addition of several Canadian mobile carriers for alert message delivery.
-

Jeff, I think you missed my point. Clearly, you understand what was meant by the email your customers received (perhaps you wrote it). The email, as written, was confusing and did not clearly communicate that the software enhancements were only to the online software.....you may want to consider sending out another email as clarification and to also let folks know that updates to the mobile apps are in the works. BTW, love the product and the support. Keep up the good work.

Barometer still has crazy readings. It's 30.18 now but had a reading today of 104.18

Hi boloko,
I think your referring to MBW? Go to your MBW page and select "My Account Settings" from the drop down menu beside your email login. On the "Account Settings" page set "Default Display Units" to metric. -

Thank you,

Still waiting for version that will allow mode 1 and allow me to download without freezing my computor
-

Is a version that works (without having to be a computer programing guru) ever going to be released. Have been waiting since Christmas. Acurite has said several times the release is a few days away, yet there is never a release of operable software.

what version of windows, what mode, and whats the error your getting?

Anyone following this thread running the laest Weather Display build 08 that added the "featrue" to feed the Acurite My Backyard Weather web application directly? Others on the WD forum report successfully doing that, but mine does not update the MBY site. From the WD software, I am successful in "Registering" my mach address and blowing out my previous data, but it never updates from WD. WireShark traffic monitor shows the software is communicaing with Acurite, but results shown on MBY. I wonder what the secret is?
-
-
Gene has the WeatherDisplay brand software updating to MBY now, after installing WD version build 09. When I first installed version 9 I had entered the station MACH address in lower case. WD sends what exactly what you type in the id box, and MBY requires Upper case to recognize the station address. WD continues to update correctly to Weather Underground. MBY is showing rainfal rates and amounts off by wild numbers, more than a factor of 10, with rain rate not agreeing with rain amounts. So far, MBY is showing the correct temperature and humidity. Correct being what I have in the WD screen display.

Hello, The new Rainfall rate widget does not seem to be working.
We had rain last night and this morning. Weather display and Weather Underground and PWSweather all show rainfall rates for this.
The Acu-link dashboard widget shows nothing at all.
...Joel -
-
is your raingauge showing anything, even in chart, try changing the chart to week
-
-
-
-
If your rain gauge shows no rainfall, then theres nothing to show in your rainfall ... I believe rainfall is in either MM/inch by hour
-
-
Yes the rain gauge shows rain amount.
How do you think Weather Display, Weather Underground and PWSweather are showing rainfall rate? There has to be a rain amount before there is a rainfall rate!
...Joel-
some folks are showing nothing on MBW, but show on wunderground ... hence the question, more than likely the widgets page code target address is incorrect
-
-
-
-
-
I reported the "rainfall rate" widget problem last week. I get an accumulation of rain but never can see the rainfall rate. I can refresh the page every 10 seconds and still no rainfall rate. This is after an inch of rain. I have had not received a reply on why this is not working.
-
-
I trust you did remove the "Tape & Rain Gauge Stablizer" (small piece of plastic) from the bottom of the weather station. If so ensure that your gauge is setup in such a way that nearby structures won't affect the units ability to accumulate rain. Lastly if you have done all of the above go to gauge and put a little bit of water into it manually and return to the console to see if there is a reading keeping in mind that these readings are not instanteous.

the short answer is the USBpcConnect.msi app which is to work with all OS, can't do what its designed to do, basically because all windows OS rely on netframeworks differently, Hence all the different issues/OS

Ye your right again...Not to mention drivers too.

I suppose we're just giving of our time and experience. We are not Chaney Instruments, we're just like you and have gone through the learning curve. I think your negative comments are unnecessary particularly since you are the one posting the questions. The moderator should be censuring your comments. Anyway..I don't need a freight train to hit me...figure it out for yourself Joel!
-
-
If you would read my post and other people who have posted here you would see that the rain Gauge is working.that means the rain gauge stabizizer and tape had been removed.

Listen Joel...I don't care to be insulted by a person who expects that everyone who should be reading his posts. As for directing this comment to me specially I would argue that it was intended for entire forum "(u people)" due to your personal frustrations with the software/hardware. In fact the only person who seems dedicated to be helping you has been George and from my perspective he has been with many good answers. So listen to him and be polite.
Rather then say....
"Why are u people coming up with such stupid stuff and don't think the rest of us have any idea what we are doing?"
You could have said;
thank you, but that has already been addressed.- view 5 more comments

yes the routing of the USB wire through the access door can be problematic
-

And heaven forbid if we need to use a USB cable that has RF chokes on it at each end.
